Description Stardate 56951.2
Missouri is pulled off of hosting negotiations by Admiral Janeway.  Stanton is ordered to investigate loss of contact with an advanced Starfleet science facility operating along the Romulan Border.  He's not sure why Janeway wants the Missouri to handle this.  There were plenty of other ships near that area.  At this point Janeway informs him that the U.S.S. Crazy Horse, and U.S.S. Thunderchild had already been sent.  Contact was lost almost as soon as they dropped out of warp.  This info put thing in perspective.  If an Excelsior and an Akira had been lost, chances were whatever was going on wasn't simple.

Stardate 56953.1
Missouri drops out of warp on the outer fringes of the Contara System.  Unable to proceed at warp due to severe subspace interference.  As the Missouri pushes forward into the system she manages to locate debris.
"Captain, the debris seems consistent with an Excelsior and Akira."  Lieutenant McCabe reported from tactical.
"Why were they in the asteroid belt?  That makes little sense."  Commander MacKenzie replied.
"They were trying to get away from something Commander."  Lieutenant Commander S'lena Missouri's chief science officer replied to him.  "There is extensive damage to the surrounding asteroids resulting from weapons fire."
"Fascinating."  Was a single word uttered by the Vulcan ambassador sitting next to her.
Stanton looked at his old friend.  "I'm afraid to ask."
"Fear would be an appropriate response Captain.  The Lieutenant Commander is detecting Borg Magnetic Resonance traces on the asteroids and the debris."  The aging Vulcan looked Stanton in the eye.  His face didn't betray his feelings, but his eyes did.
