She might be pretty but she'll take you out.I'm just kidding, I found a good excuse to draw a salaazle though.
Her hind legs are almost as tricky as getting the proportions right on the instrument itself.
Anyway! This is the first part of my contribution to the Pokemon Orchestral Charity Collab! that the Charity-Guild is putting on.
I would upload them together but the last couple of times I've contributed I worried people by posting pretty late so think of this as a halfway point I guess?
It's a bassoon btw, don't mix those up the music kids will come @ u.
They're a very pretty instrument though, low woodwind tones are few and far between.

When holding a bassoon, your left/top hand will go over the holes, so it looks just fine to me! I love the title of this btw, I've had so many people come up to me and call it an oboe so many times

now I'm Actually working on a piece that has a real oboe in it and it's a total pain. I'm not even sure the oboe itself hasn't been mirrored or something. I'm assuming that typically left hand is up at the top (since that's the way it is for other woodwinds) But if not I'm trying to keep the whole thing symmetrical so if it turns out i was wrong I can just flip it the other way X,D

Yup! Oboe is Left hand on top and right hand on the bottom. I'm doing a piece with a soprano sax in it since I'm a saxophone player (I play a lot of instruments XD). Playing and drawing an oboe is really hard. I'm sure your oboe piece will be amazing! Can't wait to see it!

I couldn't even make out where all the bars and keys were going off of my reference picture so I had to trace it once to study it so I knew what went where @ v@ It's all very confusing. Flutes are way more straightforward about these things mannn you've got a place for every finger and a few tag-ons. Stuff doesn't swirl around eachother and the main bar doesn't switch sides on you halfway through the instrument X,D

That's a really pretty oboe! It's got a low b flat key and everything. When playing an oboe, all of those keys add up and are pretty easy to reach, so the setup somewhat makes sense XD Usually with woodwind instrument (when holding them the first time), your hands will sometimes go to the right keys, but sometimes hit a few others (I think I held my bassoon backwards the first time I tried holding it XD). I know saxophone keys have the little circles on the keys for where your fingers are supposed to go:

i was in band for like 3 years i hated the oboe so much it's so irritating to play omg
i can only hope bassoon players had it easier

I was in a woodwind quintet once and I vaguely remember that the Bassoon player wasn't used to being so easily heard so I think they typically get away with a lot more (their instrument is low and quiet after all X,D)
but I mean, Oboes and Trumpets usually have the toughest job because they're a key part of the ensemble and intonation requires some work to get used to.
