Description
An early form of folding knife, commonly known as a friction folder since it has no spring to hold the blade open or closed. The blade is forged from a car coil spring.
The handle is my first attempt at pattern welding (damascus steel), from a billet of three pieces of mild steel and two of wrought iron. I don't have a buzzbox, so I have to make the initial weld the old fashioned way, wiring everything together, which is a pain. It came out rather well for a first attempt. It's one piece, folded at the bottom and shaped to cradle the blade when closed.
8 5/16" long when open.
I don't make a lot of knives, but I've been wanting to try a folder. I want to make more of these simple folding knives, using antler and wood for the handle materials.

that is amazing. it reminds me of the old razors, and of a stiletto switchblade. I really need to get my own forge and have a go.

Very nice. The iron/steel handle is a nice departure from a wood or other material handle. It's a really nice look and design. Good work! Definitely a

All metal knives are more common in machine made folding knives, but it's rare to see it on hand forged folding knives. I've seen it on a couple, but that's it.

Yeah, but rarely do you see any sort of pattern welding for handle materials, save for some high-end production or custom folders.

Thank you I've always liked random pattern damascus, it's so much like wood.
