It's September? Oh yeah, it's that season again. I'm back at my IT job and have access to a computer. Posting on company time, baby!I was going to sketch something on my job's computer, and when I opened Photoshop a bunch of my old sketches were in the recent files. It's been a really long time since I've been on shift at this particular location (almost a year,) so it was pretty cool to see these drawings that I completely forgot I did. This one's pretty good, along with another one too, so I'm posting. What, you don't know who this is? Haven't you ever heard of the fastest thing alive?! SMH! It's funny though, I can still crank out this guy (and the rest of the 60 or so odd characters) like the back of my hand without any reference at all. Might be the world's most overly-specialized skill. Ha!
That new Sonic game's looking good, btw. I hope that somehow, SOMEHOW, they can fix the lore after the abomination that was Sonic Forces. Over 20 years of well-written stories, and one game simply trashes it all. Sigh. It's like what happened in Lamune Season 2! UGH! Don't remind me... Yeah, even in Sonic, I care about lore. It's the most important thing, the writing of a story. If a manga has amazing art, but bad story, it'll fade out fast. Example: Guilty Gear. I don't care about it. The game is fun, yeah. Character designs are STELLAR with all caps. But the lore is a convoluted mess that has to be retconned over and over again. Terrible! It's probably why the average person doesn't know what it even is, unless you like fighting games. But bad art and good story? That can fly. ONE and ZUN, I kneel. Kneel, I say! Not to say their art is bad, I like it, but there's certainly better out there. But art can easily be improved. The artist can get better, or hire someone else. BAM! Instant quality shift! But a story cannot easily be fixed. This is because it's accumulative. Every single thing you write is history, and must be consistent. Even if you get the best writer ever, if the previously written lore was garbage, there's not much he can do to fix it. Therefore, treat your lore with respect. If the author does not care about his lore, the audience will not, either.
Uh, I dunno why I got into a lore conversation. Probably because I'm bored at work. But yeah, it's important. Think about any property you know, and it's probably the story and characters you remember the most. Both come from writing, so don't neglect it!
