Nathan: Mother, Aunt Madoka, please stop! You've been fighting for Earth, but everyone else is stuck in the crossfire! If you want to decide their fate, let them decide for themselves!

Hmm.. it seemed like the ending to rebellion was left rather open to interpretation.. maybe that's just me! :3

Funny enough...this is kind of, sort of, what I thought might happen in Rebellion.  I finished watching Madoka last August, which freed me up to go looking for fanstuff without spoiling anything.  Well, I didn't see Rebellion until a month later, so despite my careful browsing, I did learn of a few things that were in Rebellion, just not really any context behind them (thank goodness, because even with a few spoilers, the movie still overwhelmed me enough to melt my brain).  And as I'm known to do, I had to create my own headcanon explanation.

Among the things I learned were of Akuma Homura's existence at all and that she gets a new soul gem.  I came up with the theory, Madoka is a god now, but she's the kind of god whose power isn't self-generated: She needs prayer, sacrifice...belief in other words, if not in her by name than by believing in what she stands for.  For whatever reason, nobody was believing in it anymore, which was causing her to basically start fading away.

Homura, as we know, would not take that lying down.  However she found this out, she came to the conclusion that "God needs the Devil," someone who could create misfortune to be overcome so people would believe in Madoka again, so she also learned of this other soul gem and went to claim its power and become the Devil for Madoka's sake.  It still didn't end like this, with them apparently sharing the role of ruling the world: It ended with...well, Homura staying in Hell where she could never be with Madoka again, but she did it without regret if it could save her.  I also learned that she and Mami would have a big fight, which I figured was, naturally, Mami not wanting her to become the Devil.

While what actually happened was...pretty different in the result and much more feels-inducing in the journey there, I guess I was sooort of on the right track.  Though was was still the whole "I'll stay in Hell for her sake" part...and the movie did it way better than I did.

Ahem, sorry.  I just...have never had the opportunity to talk about this before without bringing it up out of nowhere.

If they ever make a sequel this should be the ending if you ask me.

Well its neither a good nor a bad ending because both of them will create entropy and harmony in our world but this one is a good choice as well cause this is the condition that our world is facing now
