LOL When I was little I used to draw people knitting a sock so that the sock was hanging from the needles... When I got older, I laughed at that, because I knitted socks from leg to toes... So there would not be a sock until it's done. Then I learned to knit socks from toes up, and haven't looked back.
The first one looks like me knitting when I was six. I stuck the needles in the ball of yarn and wiggled...

as a knitting person, i love this.
one to look out for: in Monty Pythons flying circus (i forget which episode) there is a sketch with lots of those old ladies they play in a submarine knitting. they're mostly faking it (UK style) but if you look closely you can see that terry jones is actually knitting XD
