Description I was watching Midnight Run recently and thought that Robert de Niro, in that movie, would have played a fantastic Vimes from Terry Pratchett'sΒ discworld series.

Already got actors in mind for portraying Captain Carrot and Moist von Lipwig, should be fun to try and draw them too

With that mole he reminds me a bit of Robert De Niro.

I always loved the City Watch stories. My favorite Discworld character is a tossup between Sam Vimes (I have a lot of sympathy for a guy who does a thankless nighttime job) and Esmerelda Weatherwax (I just really like the crotchety old woman with a heart of gold trope.)

Here's a great rendition of a man who can tell where he is in Anhk Morpork by the fell of the cobbles through his worn-out boots.

What a delightful rendition of Vimes. I’m always interested in the variety of subtle differences various artists ascribe to characters. This is a much warmer and less gnarled version than I am used to seeing. Well done.Β

Also, I gotta love that dragon smoke.

Thank you! I think as de Niro ages, it would fit in line with how craggy Vimes gets. He's certainly got the attitude to play him

Sam Vimes is my favorite literature character of all time just as Sir Terry Pratchett is my favorite author of all time.

My ideal Vimes is, James Coburn, then Sean Bean.

Ooh good call on Coburn, I really see that working!

IKR? I got a perfect vision from a scene, I think in "Men at Arms", where Vimes has to be at a dinner of nobles with Sibyl. A noble says something typically stupid, and Vimes just gives a dangerous smile as his response. So I immediately got this flash of James Coburn because he's always had a great smile that could turn scary.Β

Pratchett was so good with his protagonists, wasn't he? I can't help be a little in love with Vimes still, and you captured his trademark expression really well. \o/

Thank you! I've broken the spine on so many discworld books, you really can go back and re-read them over and over. They're incredibly written!
