Description
Welcome to Featherstone Ranch! We are located in the vast lands of Tamar Valley, Engeland, where three brothers decided to breath new life in an old ranch. The previous owner was growing old, hitting his eighties, and having the property growing him out of hands. Everything needed a little touch, a lick of paint or a new roof, but once the brothers were done it was restored in it's old glory.1. South Wing: Horse Barn | Blueprint Box Layout
The southern part of the big stable facility. It's interior has thick, off-white cobblestone walls, with wooden doors and wooden shutters. The roofs are brand-new, but apart from that it still breaths from old age. The thick, wooden beams that keep the roof up are as old as the barn itself and the Bates' brothers decided to keep it that way. It wouldn't be the same without them.
The South Wing can hold up to eighteen horses, having 18 boxes of 4,50 x 4,50 meters, and a big tack room to keep everything tidy.
2. Second Floor: Darren's Apartment
It used to be close to collapsing, only a shadow from the hay storage it used to be. Now it is restored to an one bedroom apartment. It isn't big, but it's got everything one might need and the view is stunning; looking over the Featherstone property from all four sides. The boys loved the place too much to restore it to just a hay storage and decided it would be a beautiful place to live. While the oldest and youngest brother decided to live in the old farm house together, Darren claimed the apartment and now calls it his home. It's front door is in the pillar beneath it: a stairway leading upstairs.
3. North Wing: Horse Barn | Blueprint Box Layout
Almost completely the same building as the South Wing and combined with it by the old hay storage (Darren's Apartment). This wing is slightly bigger than the Southern one and holds place to two more horses with 20 boxes of 4,50 x 4,50 meters.
4. West Wing: The Breeding Department | Blueprint Box Layout
The West Wing is one of the newer buildings, but build in exactly the same style as the older buildings. Inside are 4 large pregnancy boxes, big enough to hold both mom and her baby when the nights are long and cold, as long as it needs. The foals will have enough room to roam around, and both can lay down without loosing to much space with it. There's a large tack room filled with all the stuff that one might need leading a mare through labor. There's a medical kit and there's always a note stuck to the old, wooden door (that's been re-used from old, demolished buildings to give it that old vibe) with numbers to the phone number of the main vet, but also to vets that can replace him when we can't reach him. Every stall has a camera hanging above it, giving view into the mare's box without disturbing her so we can keep track on her for multiple days to not miss the labor.
5. Roundspens
There are two roundpens on the stable grounds to make lunging and working with the horses a little easier. The sand is bordered with a simple but sturdy wooden fence that's high enough to keep any horse in.
6. Parking Lot
The parking lot is big with room to stall a view trailers, giving space for parking to visitors as well as to our staff. It's not that big and ready-to-go for any shows or big entertaining, but we don't get that many visitors at the same time after all, so the place will do. It's bordered with a fine lush green hedge that our groundskeeper Lionel keeps beautifully in check.
7. Inside Riding Hall
Thick, off-white cobble stone walls keep the roof high and up. The old, weathered wooden beams keep the structure up and speak of tales to old to tell. It's clear that this building has stood here for ages, only the tall glass windows in the long walls are a sign of renewing. The brothers renovated the building, but has kept as much the same as they could.
8. Paddocks
One two sides of the property you will find large sand paddocks where horses can be let out to roam and play without putting them on the massive meadows scattered around our property. It's perfect for horses that are recovering, or on days that the weather is too bad for long days on the meadow.
9. Open Dressage Arena
Bordered with beautiful lined up trees and here and there a few rose bushes is the dressage arena. It has a few benches along the side for spectators to relax on while they watch the training of one another.
10. Dunghill
Here is all the manure of the Featherstone barns brought out to. We'll keep it composting for as long as it takes to fill up between the walls and than it is usually emptied twice a month.
11. Open Jumping Arena
In the reflection of the dressage arena is another one with exactly the same size, but this one is specialized with sturdy jumping obstacles. The obstacles can be changed and moved around to make different parcours.
12. Storage Shed | Second Floor: Bedding Storage
An old, big garage build to keep all the big machinery inside. One side is usually open so everything can be ridden in and out when needed, but can also be closed with a big, heavy shutter wall when it's needed (which is like, almost never). Up on the second floor right under the roofing is an attic where we store all of our straw bedding.
13. Cross Country Track
Made completely on the grass underground is our dressage track. It has different obstacles: from a water run and jump, to different old logs and actual cross country obstacles. It has a big fence that can be set open to give entrance to the forest laying on the other side of the track, where scattered on the paths is always logs and such laying around which can be perfectly used for training.
14. Terrace & Tribunes
In between the jumping arena and the cross country track is a big terrace with place for all of our staff our visitors to take a break or relax and overview the training of one another. There's also a view benches which figure as a tribune for both sides to look onto too.
15. Covered Round Pen | Second Floor: Hay Storage
Since England isn't always that sunny, the staff decided on their own comfort and constructed one of the old buildings into a covered round pen. Easier than always stealing the inside riding hall as a groundwork place, since other staff rides there too.
16. Northern Fields
These are also the property of Featherstone Ranch and usually made to harvest our own herbal hay from. The horses love the quality of their food and we love to keep control on what exactly we do feed our horses. A few times a year (depending on how good the weather is on us) we harvest hay from these fields.
17. Old Farm House: The Bates' Residence
With a straw roof and old wooden beams to proof it this building is probably the oldest on the property. Even though it cost more time to renovate it than completely demolishing and building anew would have taken, the brothers loved it too much to take it down. It's big enough to hold up to two families, with different living rooms and a big, shared kitchen and enough bedrooms to keep an orphanage, so Liam & Roan decided to both live there.
