Description I was disappointed in the severe lack of writing memes out there. What ones there were weren't very much fun. And I'll admit, I was severely jealous during the Nyu's Art Meme craze. (so much fun to be had, so little art skills...)

So now I have created my OWN writing meme: Hazika's Freaking Awesome Writing Meme! (I'm not egocentric, no...) I tried to make it as fun as possible, with more opportunities to show off your stuff by answering questions in story or poem or whatever format, and with color! (seriously, some of the ones that I found were all black and white... very boring...)

If you would like to do this, there are a couple of ways you can fill it out:
1) The easiest way (in my opinion): download the meme by right-clicking on the image and selecting "Save Image As..." to save the image to your computer. Then use MS Paint or Photoshop or Corel or whatever art programs you have on your computer (all PCs have MS Paint; I don't know about Macs, but I am 99% certain that they have something artsy that comes standard with them, too) to fill out the meme. Save the filled out version, and then submit it as a deviation. (and then don't forget to send me a note with the link!!)

2) The hard way (in my opinion): print the meme out (if you're going to do this, it would be best to print it in black and white, since that's a lot of color...) and then fill it out in pen or pencil or whatever. You're going to need a scanner to get the meme back onto your computer, though, but once it's back on, you can submit the file as a deviation. (since the meme is so long, though, it might take several pages to print it out. You would have to use MS Paint or whatever to put the scans of the pages back together on the computer, so if you're going to do this, you might as well go with option 1, or submit each page as its own deviation)... And then send me a note with a link to the deviation(s)!!!

3) The not-so-hard but not-so-easy way: Don't worry about downloading or printing and scanning; type out the questions onto a text document and answer the questions that way, then save the document and submit it as a literary deviation. This is not my preferred method, since I am sort of proud of my meme layout and everything, but if you cannot do option 1 or option 2 (or are too lazy to do option 2, or don't have enough ink, or don't have a scanner), then you can do this. (hopefully as a last resort?) And then you must send the requisite note with a link to the deviation.

Here's my filled-out version: [link]

It would be very helpful if you could provide a link back to this page in the author's comment if you're going to fill this out; that way other people can find the blank version and fill it out, too! Thank you!!

Apologies to any of the other people who created writing memes that I might have offended with this disgustingly long artist's comment! It's not that you suck, it's just that my expectations are way too high, and I don't deal well with disappointment.

Heheh, if this is a writing meme, then one should write their responses in their own handwriting...though, that's just me. Otherwise, it's typing.

^_^

Still, looks interesting; thanks for sharing.

hazika In reply to DMajorBoss [2009-12-04 23:55:28 +0000 UTC]

Well, I meant "writing," as in, novelling, or poetry, or w/e. But in the instructions (read: my EXTREMELY LONG EXPLANATION IN THE ARTIST COMMENT BOX!!!!) it says you can print, fill in the answers by hand, and then scan the meme back in, so if you WANT to do it by hand, it's possible.

But to me, the type of meme you're talking about would be a "handwriting" meme, not a "writing" meme. A "writing" meme, especially on dA, means -- to me at least, lol -- creative writing, whether it be fanfiction, novels, poems, memoirs, etc..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DMajorBoss In reply to hazika [2009-12-05 00:42:35 +0000 UTC]

Yup, I did read the comment; I like giving things a read.

^_^

On this site, I see so many go for the drawings and photos and other forms of visual artistics. It's also annoying when someone says that you're not an artist since you don't draw...basically telling me that I am not "one of them" and shouldn't be treated as such.

To that end, when I think of a writing meme, I think of something that should be done that takes a person out of their drawing element for once. I like the thought that, for one meme, they'll take some time to walk down my path. Using a paint program or other image based assistance allows them to "assume" my path without actually being on it (like camping in an RV and spending all of your time in the RV).

I do understand your definition, though; it's just that, in my experiences, everyone is a "writer," but only a few can "write" and "author" a work. One who writes makes the words and structures; one who authors can make a world out of that structure, a whole new entity and identity. Many are "writers" in this sense (even those making a grocery list), but only a few are "authors."

Heheh, my apologies for the rambling, and I want you to know that I mean no offense in any of this. Just sharing my two cents about things.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hazika In reply to DMajorBoss [2009-12-05 03:51:21 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I actually agree with your definition. But as a person who has been working in the education industry for the past year, I like to encourage other people to write more. So maybe they're not Hemingway; but if someone who normally doesn't enjoy writing can fill this out, and find that they enjoy the creativity of the literary arts -- or maybe, by reading the completed memes of others, see that they need improvement, and can find a good start towards that improvement in the answer to question #11 -- then that would make me a very happy person. It's kind of how I explain my complicated feelings regarding the "Twilight" series: I hate, hate, hate, hate, HATE the series and the hype it has undeservedly garnered, but I love how it's gotten kids to read something that they enjoy, and then go looking for other books to read for fun.

Plus, there's more types of writers than just novelists, and that's why I tried to incorporate different opportunities for those writers to strut their stuff in this meme: the epitaph question is an opportunity for those who specialize in poetry; the question on the family's reaction is for those who prefer journaling, or even journalism; the intro for people who have a penchant for stream-of-consciousness; the death scene can be done in so many ways that it's often my favorite response to read when I see a filled version. I know I missed a lot, but I tried to make this as inclusive and fun as I possibly could, because I know that when Nyu's Art Meme was going on, I felt kind of left out of the fun because the "Art" involved was limited to the visual arts.

And no problem about the rambling; as you can see, I tend to do it as well.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DMajorBoss In reply to hazika [2009-12-05 05:29:59 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I agree with you fully, to be honest. I've been writing stories and poetry for almost twenty years now, doing all I could to improve and even going off to college (5th year senior at the University of South Carolina). In all this time, it's rare to see anyone want to read unless it's on a blog, directed for them individually, or being done for a grade. Yes, as much as I dislike those twinkly vampires, I do admit that it's good to see the youth of our generation reading. So, yes, I also encourage reading and writing.

Very true on the different types, by the way. Your different opportunities helps one to find the niche into which they feel a level of comfort. A part of me does feel that drawers here get too much shine while writers are left in the dusty shadows, but I also like the idea of a unity where we all can come together in both fun and creativity. I know as well the feelings of being left out of jams, challenges, contests, commissions, trades, and gift events due to me being a writer, so I like that you want to get more involved.

You're quite the intellectual, I must say, with good morals shared here. Being open-minded, polite, and one who provokes thought is a welcomed change considering what's online. Also, I apologize if my writing mention was pompous in any way; I don't intend for it to be.

^_^

But, yeah, tis a pleasure in sharing with you.

Indeed. People tend to forget that there is literary art as well as visual art. >.>

Hahaha, take your time. You don't have to do it. I just got the impression that you were intending to when you said you had never written your own epitaph.

Me? I am up to trying to live through the last three weeks of classes before finals week, as well as attempting to relax every now and then by re-reading Deathly Hallows (dude, after watching Bleach, I want to call them Hollows sooooo badly... lol). Also trying to plan what I want to do over the summer, besides get a job. Also worrying about how easily I'm going to be able to go from a college student who can do whatever she wants, whenever she wants, however she wants, to living at home for the summer and having to borrow the car from her mother whenever she wants to go do something with her friends, asking permission to go do stuff before actually doing it, and having chores and general parenting tactics employed. I'm dying to go home, but I'm dreading losing all of the freedoms that I've become accustomed to at school.

And by working full-time, I'll get to earn some much-needed munnies for next school year! (at a job which pays MUCH more munnies than the stupid dining courts at school... seriously, I never want to work for minimum wage AGAIN, especially not when I'm expected to work more than fifteen hours a week while also trying to keep my grades up as a full-time student!)

My favorite comedian is EDDIE IZZARD! SO HILARIOUS!!

Mmm...That's actually why I don't TAKE Spanish anymore. The grammar messed me up. I can't speak it or write it. However, I can hear/read it and understand it. I'm going to UNC to get my teaching degree in technical theatre...bud.

Ah. Good ol' Eddie Izzard. I always think of Iggy Pop first when I hear his name though, I think it's the "I"'s.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hazika In reply to Xandi5anders [2008-04-18 00:50:29 +0000 UTC]

I applied to UNC at Chapel Hill for my reach school -- I got turned down, and then again when I appealed the rejection. (that's something I would advise, btw: if you get turned down by a college, if you appeal the rejection, it looks really good, because you're saying "Hey, I REALLY wanna go to your school, and I'm being proactive about it!") Have you actually gotten in, or are you still waiting for a response?

Psh, there's no way Iggy Pop could ever be compared to Eddie Izzard in anything other than name, though. Eddie conquers all. With the cunning use of flags.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Xandi5anders In reply to hazika [2008-04-18 02:37:46 +0000 UTC]

I haven't applied yet. I'm going to get my generals done at a community college because it's closer and cheaper. But, I'll keep your suggestion in mind. Apparently, if you talk to admissions at a college fair expo thing, they'll waive your application fee.

Yes. It's just the name that throws me. I know that Iggy sings 'my theme song' (as dubbed my my tech teacher) and Eddie is in Across the Universe

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hazika In reply to Xandi5anders [2008-06-18 01:38:24 +0000 UTC]

He's in "Across the Universe" and so much more... He's in a British TV show called "The Riches", and recently played the voice of Reepicheep (the mouse with the feather on his ear) in "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian". He's in a lot of other American stuff, but none that I can think of right now. I thought you would most likely recognize "Chronicles of Narnia", though.

That's actually what I'm doing, in regards to college. I'm going to my community college here in my hometown to get my core classes taken care of, but then I'm going to transfer out to a school with a good linguistics program, or possibly join the military to attend the Defense Language Institution -- the best school for linguistics in the WORLD. But I'm not entirely sure if I could kill or hurt people... I'm not scared of ME dying, but I'm terrified of killing other people. My one fear for myself is probably getting hurt or maimed in some way. Death is the least of my worries.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Xandi5anders In reply to hazika [2008-06-18 18:10:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. Most people I've talked to about doing generals at a community college tell me it's "the smart thing to do" so... Plus, it's just what my family does. My brothers all went to community college first to adjust themselves and get used to the idea of college and whatnot.

Oh, if it's any consollation, I saw a bit of Eddie at a party. I watched "Cake or Death" and The one about beekeepers. He was quite funny and very good with his delivery. He reminds me of one of my friends for some reason. I haven't seen Prince Caspian, actually, but I DID know that he did the voice for that kickass little rat

Also, I was wondering what you thought of S.E. Hinton's "The Outsiders"?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hazika In reply to Xandi5anders [2008-06-27 15:00:00 +0000 UTC]

I'm actually transferring to a community college to do that right now, since I went to my current college with the intention of majoring in science, and therefore decided on a science school, only to end up in a linguistics major! So before transferring over to a school for linguistics or languages, I'm going to get all of the random crap out of the way.

The show was okay... I missed like half of it because the woman sitting behind me was absolutely pissed drunk and spent the whole show screaming "YEAH! BADGERS REPRESENT!" and "YEAH, WELL YOU'RE IN AMERICA NOW, BUDDY, SO GET USED TO IT OR F*** OFF!" so I didn't hear much of anything until she left, just before giving me a ripped piece of the bag her souvenirs came in as an apology for being so loud. Everything after that was great, except he had to throw in an endorsement for Obama; that threw me off for three reasons: 1) I don't like Obama. (I don't really like any of the people running in this election, but I particularly do not like Obama) 2) It completely threw off the feeling of the show, just randomly throwing in there "So, you guys have an election coming up, and I support Obama." 3) Eddie Izzard is British. Meaning he is not an American citizen, nor does he even live in America. His only involvements in politics are in his shows and his plans to run for British Parliament sometime in the distant future. So why the hell is he endorsing an American Senator for President of the United States? In the middle of a COMEDY SHOW?! I mean, if he were, say, a member of Parliament, or the Prime Minister, I would be like, "Hey, yeah, say your bit; you've got every right." But this guy... *sigh* idk. I hate it when celebrities try to influence politics in general, so when Eddie Izzard did it, it really lowered my respect for him.

I actually haven't read that one. We were supposed to read it in my ninth grade English class, but we never got around to it. (I went to a charter school, so we didn't exactly have to follow the curriculum -- we were supposed to read a whole number of other books that never got read, too, like "The Chocolate Wars," but instead we did writing assignments and learned about poems like "O me, O life." ) And most of the books I'm reading these days are either by Ted Dekker (a Christian suspense/thriller author my friends have gotten me addicted to), or are by Spanish authors and are entirely in Spanish -- because I am trying to keep up on my Spanish skills after rotting away in a hellish Spanish 4 class. >.<

Wow, that majorly sucks and I'm sorry. If she was just going to apologize anyway, why start? Even if she was drunk. She shouldn't have started drinking if she knew she'd make an ass of herself. Hmm...Maybe that was the only way he thought he could relate to Americans today? I don't know...but I'm sorry that the show ended up being a dissapointment for you.

Darn your teacher for not reading the Outsiders. It's slated as a great literary classic, and I sort of wanted your view on it. As long as you didn't insult my favorite character

Thank you! Like I said, I didn't like how a lot of the other memes didn't give a lot of opportunity to actually WRITE in your own writing style, but only asked straight-out questions like "What's your favorite genre to write for?" I mean, all of the art memes give PLENTY of opportunity to show off the artists' styles, right? Writing is an art form, so we need the opportunity to show our stuff, too.
