Description
Of all the romantic and beautiful moments I could’ve picked to draw I ended up drawing Ruby and Sapphire chasing after the frog they picked up. I don’t know why but I found that scene ridiculously hilarious. Probably more than it was intended to be.

Yeah, I’ve seen how other shows and even movies write romantic relationships but they never seem realistic. But then you have episodes like “Story for Steven” or “The Answer” that simple tells the story of how two people started a relationship together and it feels very believable.
I personally think of “The Answer” as being a metaphor for “sexual awakening” or “sexual exploration”. But that’s also one of things that I love about this show, is that you’re allowed to draw your own interpretations and conclusions.

What's more impressive about this situation of how relationships work and develop is, that Rebecca Sugar and the crewniverse managed to show great examples in 11 minutes of gorgeous animation. Some movies spend about 70 minutes over something unnatural while these amazing artists showed how it really works in 11 minutes.
Yes, this show was absolutely well planned in a way that each person can take their own interpretations and even connect in some way with the characters and their struggles and experiences.

Exactly! That just proves how good and smart the creators and writers of the show are. They know that can’t cram an actual romance is such a short amount of time. So they give us the IDEA of what the romance is like. It’s like with the movie “UP”. We don’t need an entire movie to tell us how two characters meet and fall in love. They do it all in the first 10-or so minutes of the film and it works perfectly.
Yeah, by having to work around the “censors” they make the messages a lot more abstract or general which is actually pretty great.

Yes, it's all about using the right guidelines, emotions and body language of the characters/actors to show it, they don't have to be explicit and take a long while to show it.
Not to mention that they can still show, not explicitly, what goes around the characters relationships and such without the risk of being censored. Like, Ruby and Sapphire are clearly in a romantic relationship, everything they have shown is obvious, and without the need to show it on screen with a kiss. Whoever is still trying to say they aren't involved is obviously in denial.

The golden rule that so many people forget “SHOW don’t TELL”.
Yeah, Sapphire and Ruby are defiantly a “gay canon couple”. They just substitute “gay” with “genderless but still appears as the same gender” and “couple” with “fusion”.

Tried and they succeeded actually, they did air on UK the censored version of "We Need to Talk". And what's bad about this is, here where I live we usually get the same animated version that is released in the UK so yeah, a couple of weeks ago they aired that same version here in Portugal.
At least our voice acting cast hasn't censored dialogues and such as it was done in France when Garnet's song played or anything regarding Ruby and Sapphire's relationship.

How much you want to bet that they’ve re-dubbed Ruby as a boy in most countries? And did they seriously remove “Stronger Than You”? That’s one of the best songs in the whole show! Damn, never have I been so grateful to live in Canada.

Unfortunately I believe that they would go that low in some countries and change her character. They didn't remove, they changed the meaning. Instead of Garnet saying "I'm made of love" apparently they changed it to "I'm made of friendship". But from what I heard there was a petition for the French CN to change and I think they succeeded.
I'm not going to lie, when "Jailbreak" aired here in Portugal I was scared of what they could've censored, but I was surprised and so happy to see that they kept everything loyal to the original version, even the song was translated to the letter.

Well to be fair I have seen some fans mistake Ruby for a boy, even in the original English dub. Although turning Ruby into a boy seems kind of sexist when you think about.
They really changed “love” to “friendship”? So friends can’t love each other as friends? She says she’s “made of love” but they never specify what kind of “love” (even though to us it’s obvious).
Yeah, I feel like if they’re going to censor and edit the show like this, then why even broadcast it in the first place? And it isn’t one or two minor things but some crucial elements of the show. It would be like removing Steven and Connie’s relationship from the show because some people might be offended by “mixed couples”.

I mean, I can buy Lapis not recognizing Garnet, since she looked so different than the last time they saw one another, but now I'm wondering, assuming they do know one another personally, why didn't GARNET try reaching out to Lapis? Unless they both know something that we don't know yet? Ahhhh so many mysteries and theories could be born from that! >v<

Well, personally Garnet doesn't know her, it's Sapphire. And knowing the way Homeworld sees fusion Garnet wouldn't be able to talk to Lapis even if she tried, I guess. There are many aspects of the story between characters that are yet to be revealed, and I'm pretty sure Rebecca and the Crewniverse will show it at the right time and everything will make sense.

Frogs look so slimy, and alien-like; they must think they are one of them!
(If you don't agree, think of the Alaskan Wood frog, who can completely freeze to "death" during the winter, heart frozen and the whole deal, then during the spring, slowly start to de-frost into the living, breathing frog it had been before.)

Hey, you can draw Ruby and Sapphire doing anything and it'll turn into gold; seriously, there in no bad comic with Ruby and Sapphire in it. I once saw a comic where Ruby was hiding under a rock and Sapphire tried to lure her out with a head of lettuce and Ruby just extended her neck and at the lettuce like a turtle... it was hilarious.
