Story:
Agate Quartz is Spike and Thorax's adopted son and the ninth of the new generation to be born. Spike and Thorax found his egg during one of their trips to find rare jewels. They tried to find the egg's parents but no one claimed it, and with no other choice Spike and Thorax took care of the egg until it hatched.
When Agate was born Thorax grew very fond of the baby dragon and Spike didn't want to break that new bond, so he decided that instead of leaving the baby dragon in a orphanage they would adopt him as their own.

Agate was welcomed with open arms by Spike and Thorax's friends and family, and the baby dragon grew up with the company of his cousin Starchaser and the other kids.
When he started attending school he used to be picked on by others for being different, Spike told him several times to stand up against the others but he refused with the fear of hurting them badly. At some point Starchaser and Windy found out and were always defending him until no one bugged him anymore.

Later on Spike decided to tell Agate the truth about his lineage, to which Thorax refused with the fear that Agate wouldn't love them anymore when found out the truth. Spike managed to convince Thorax that was in Agate's rights to know about his past, and when they explained it to their son he wasn't surprised for being adopted. Somehow he always had a feeling but it never bothered him because Spike and Thorax truly cared about him as their own flesh and blood.

In his teenage years Agate started realizing that he had feelings for Apple Syrup but he refused to tell her because he was so embarrassed and thought she was too good for someone like him. Ironically Apple Syrup had equal feelings for him and had the same doubts. The two shared their inner feelings with their best friends, Pandemonium and Harmony, and when they talked about the subject they decided to give a little push to Agate and Apple Syrup. And in the end the two confessed to each other and started dating.

When Agate reached age of 20 he started working as a part-time cook in a local restaurant and in his free days he works as a jewel finder in the outskirts of Ponyville. His most important costumer is Aunt Rarity, who pays a great amount of coins for the jewels he finds.
During the first few times he went to find jewels he had encounters with the Diamond Dogs. They threatened him for "trespassing" the area. When he told Apple Syrup about it she stormed to the jewel ground the next day and gave the Diamond Dogs a piece of her mind. Agate didn't know what happened, only that they wouldn't bother him again.

Agate is the only dragon born from the Next Generation cast.
He and Lucky Moonflower are the only adopted children from the Next Generation.
During his childhood Agate used to whine about not being able to get a cutie mark like his friends.
Agate loves mornings and is always looking forward to the sunrise.
Agate looks up to his cousin Starchaser and whenever he has questions she's always glad to answer them, no matter how ridiculous they may be.
In terms of physical strength Agate is the strongest of the Next Generation cast because he's a dragon.
Agate and Pandemonium are best buddies.
Agate can breathe flames like Spike but their color is bright red.
Unlike Spike, Agate never cared about eating jewels.
Agate is always volunteering to taste Apple Syrup's new dishes, the others even say he has a "bottomless stomach" for being able to eat all her food.
Agate is a good cook, sometimes he and Apple Syrup team up to cook for their friends.
Agate hates Winter because he easily gets a cold and fires flames whenever he sneezes.
Agate likes to tag along in Pandemonium and Windy's team pranks, and he likes to help them prank their friends as long as it doesn't cross the line.
When he's hungry his stomach makes the sound that resembles a roaring dragon. He scared some of his friends a few times.
Agate snores very loud like a fully grown dragon.
Agate can dig big long tunnels under the ground.
He once entered a eating contest but despite his efforts he ended up in second place. Apple Syrup was the one who won the first prize.
Sometimes he sleepwalks and empties the fridge, Starchaser can confirm that is true because she caught him eating her favorite sweets twice.
Agate has a ferret named Crystal as a pet.
As a ground type dragon Agate shows a great enjoyment in getting covered in mud and dirt once in a while, and it displeases him when his father or aunts tell him to take a bath.
Agate doesn't known how to swim. Harmony tried to teach him since she's so good at it but the dragon always panics and sinks like a rock.
Agate's spiked tail is capable of shattering boulders in pieces.
Agate is a compulsive organizer and will always organize the whole library when Starchaser is in there studying and taking piles of books from the shelves.
Agate went on the "Dragon Migration" when turned 18 years old. Spike promised that would let him to go when he was old enough and capable of handling things on his own.
