found it! I always did love this pair up during Caous War. Its like the evil couple of evil. Nekra cheats on him, Grim Reaper lies to her and leaves her to die. Yet they still come back together. Wonder how he'll react if he found out Nekra had a child.

They do make the perfect evil couple... not a good relationship mind you, but evil nonetheless!

They are a really funny evil couple. Their reasons to be together are quite insane:
He hates mutants and is racist, yet he dates her, a black mutant woman. (his excuse is her very white albino skin, but he isnt very sane over all, so maybe in his warped logic it isnt that much of a bizarre thing to do)

She doesnt seems to mind this, in fact she loves his hate, because hate feeds her mutant powers, and he sure hates a LOT of people. Most of all the Avengers. It amuses me how she's stimulating him in the hate thing:

She: "they are a group worth hating, YES!"
He: "Yeah! I hate 'em!" (...) "

I'm gonna kill 'em Nekra, both of those walking insults!" She: "I love it when you talk like that!"
It would not work for other people, but in their case love (and insanity) conquers all.

I haven't seen any episodes of that yet. The last really good Marvel animated series I watched was the Wolverine anime on G4. That kicks all kinds of ass. I want to see their Iron Man one as well but I never seem to catch it.

It's worth catching, it really kicks major ass both design and story wise.

I'm just dying to see some of the classic Iron Man villains in that style.

Iron Man does have some nice, classic villains in his rogue gallery. I'm excited about tackling some of them in this deformed style too, like Titanium Man, Crimson Dynamo, Unicorn, Backlash, etc.

I love all the ones you mention but I have to say my favorite was the original Firebrand, Melter and Obidiah Stane when he was Iron Monger.

hclix In reply to MJMJR [2012-01-13 11:38:52 +0000 UTC]

All great choices... hard to believe I've yet to cover Obidiah Stane as the Iron Monger! ...see a Iron Man theme in the future!

MJMJR In reply to hclix [2012-01-14 12:35:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, considering he was in the film and all I would have thought you would have covered him already

Other favorites of mine are the Controller and I loved the original Guardsman when he went nuts and tried to kill Iron Man.

I look forward to seeing you do an Iron Man theme

Sure, as soon as I have this style down and feel no more changes are coming, I'll be diving into a ton of characters! On a Fantastic Four kick of late, re-reading Mark Waid's tenure on the title.

I have to say for the male characters I like the chubby leg look you came up with but I think your old thin leg style works best for the female characters. It gives them more of a sleek, sexy look.

I'm so far out of the FF comics that I have no idea what's happening in them anymore. The last issue I picked up was the 600 milestone issue.

hclix In reply to MJMJR [2012-01-15 16:53:45 +0000 UTC]

I'm still tweaking the style on the female characters, agree they need to be sleeker. Got a few ideas I wanna try, gonna tackle another character I've yet to do, Satana, next week.

And I'm with you on the whole "out-of-the-loop" on the current FF. I downloaded FF #1-13 yesterday, so as time permits, gonna do some catching-up.

MJMJR In reply to hclix [2012-01-15 17:33:36 +0000 UTC]

I kind of come and go as far as FF comics are concerned. I love the Essential volumes and I can't wait for them to get to the John Byrne era of the series.

But as far as the regular series went I only collected issues based on villains who appeared in them before that. Like the Frightful Four, Scourge hits and the one where Water Wizard fought Hydro Man outside Four Freedoms Plaza.

hclix In reply to MJMJR [2012-01-15 19:48:19 +0000 UTC]

I admit that i haven't followed the FF since Byrne was on the title. Whatever magic he brought to the art/storytelling was lost after he left. Like you, I've picked up an issue here and there, but not on a monthly basis... which is sad, cause the FF should be one of Marvel's top titles. Maybe the concept is just dated, I really couldn't tell you cause they've put some good creative teams on the title but nothing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to hclix [2012-01-16 17:53:53 +0000 UTC]

I don't think the concept is dated as much as the title just suffered from bad writing so many times after Byrne that it lost a lot of it's momentum and it's only just starting to gain it back again after all these years.

Also its one of those titles that you simply can't just jump on at any given point and know what's happening. The plotlines with some of the characters are so convoluted and all over the place that it just confuses the hell out of anyone trying to understand it especially when they get into the time travel shit.

hclix In reply to MJMJR [2012-01-16 18:31:31 +0000 UTC]

I liked how Byrne used the classic villains like Diablo, Dr. Doom, Annihilus, Galactus, etc. and made them interesting and not a retread of what Lee/Kirby had done with them. No one in my eyes has been able to capture the magic that group produced.

MJMJR In reply to hclix [2012-01-16 23:39:39 +0000 UTC]

Plus he made some cool new villains and characters on top of having the FF team up with other heroes and gave them a new headquarters that I thought was much better than the old Baxter Building.

hclix In reply to MJMJR [2012-01-17 01:23:20 +0000 UTC]

Lots and lots of landmark stuff during Byrne's run on FF... I especially liked the deeper exploration of the Negative Zone, showing the different races and such. Another fave story line was Doom pitting Terrax the Untamed against the FF, which brought in the Silver Surfer to lend a hand, epic battle!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJMJR In reply to hclix [2012-01-18 01:13:55 +0000 UTC]

That was an awesome one and great death scene with Terrax.

Also the Trial of Galactus, the Hate Monger and Psycho Man turning Sue into Malice and showing how powerful she really was, Gladiator beating the FF and actually hefting the Baxter Building off it's foundation. Doom adopting Kristoff and he becomes the new Doom.

You were never bored or confused with Byrne's stuff on that title.

MJMJR In reply to hclix [2012-01-18 16:36:25 +0000 UTC]

The one thing he did that totally disappointed me was his Spider-Man: Chapter One series. I thought that was just badly done all the way around. Even his art wasn't up to par and all his redesigns were terrible.

The one series he did that I loved was his X-Men: The Hidden Years title. It had really strong sales and Marvel cancelled it anyway. Byrne got so pissed he quit Marvel and vowed he would never to go back to the company while the current management is still in power.

hclix In reply to MJMJR [2012-01-18 16:58:42 +0000 UTC]

I missed that one, which sounds like it was a GOOD thing! lol! Though I did catch some of X-Men: The Hidden Years, I've yet to read the entire series. I have it collected, just need to find the time. That really sucks how Marvel treated Byrne, he's quite a talent.

MJMJR In reply to hclix [2012-01-19 01:02:58 +0000 UTC]

You're better off. It lasted 10 or 12 issues if I recall right but it was just bad planning all the way around. I think the most absurd thing he did was try to claim Sandman and Norman Osborn were relatives just based on their similar hair styles.

The other thing he did was revamp every classic bad guy's costume and none of them looked good. Vulture looked like he had on a butler suit with wings attached to it. Electro was in a really generic looking blue and white skin suit... just terrible.

Yeah I what they did to Byrne was uncalled for. I've heard from others he can be a pain in the ass to deal with sometimes but still he shouldn't have been treated like that just because someone decided they didn't like him.

MJMJR In reply to hclix [2012-01-19 23:33:47 +0000 UTC]

I shit you not he actually put that in there.

The whole series was supposed to be a sort of Year One type of revamp of Spidey in the regular MU, which didn't make a lot of sense since no other titles were doing this.

I guess they figured since Byrne did that for Superman and Wonder Woman at DC he would be the guy to do it for Spidey but Marvel continuity is so much tighter than DC that most people hated what he tried to revamp and thought it wasn't warrented.

I think the series was actually collected into a tpb not too long ago and there are torrents of it online on the pirate bay if I recall right. If you want a series that will make you laugh and cringe check it out.

I really liked his revamp of Superman and George Perez's of Wonder Woman. I'll have to look for the Byrne run on Spider-man on Demonoid... what's the official title of the series?

Spider-Man: Chapter One

I love Byrne's run on Superman and I'm not even that much of a fan of the character. I absolutely loved what he did with his villains, especially Metallo.

hclix In reply to MJMJR [2012-01-21 14:14:20 +0000 UTC]

True... his re-vision of Metallo became the standard bearer afterwords... even the animated series used Byrne's take for Metallo.

I also would like to suggest taking a glimpse at the new comic Ferals by Avatar Press, but I strongly, strongly caution you to keep it away from youngsters; there's very graphic stuff in it that isn't good for them to see. (it's a werewolf book with guts, in a nutshell.)
