Description This is a reproduction of "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer. The original was painted between 1665-1667. Scholars argue about the original dating. I reproduced it because I love Vermeer's work and I thought this painting deserved to be refreshed and refurbished. She is such a beautiful subject. Folks were right when they called her "the dutch Mona Lisa". I hope you enjoy the reproduction! Please leave feedback. If you want to see the original, use google images and type in "Girl with a Pearl Earring". You'll see the cracked and dry original version. Even in THAT state it's beautiful! *sigh*

This is a beautiful restoration, but I almost kind of prefer it in its original format, because I think it kind of gives it history, don't you? I absolutely adore this painting and the book. I like pretty much all of Vermeer's stuff. Have you ever read the book? It's weird because, before I read it I really didn't give the painting a second thought, but it was reading about the girl (in the book, Griet) that made her beautiful to me. Does that make any sense at all? Oh well, fantastic job anyway.

I completely agree with you. In fact, it was my love for Griet's character and my love for Vermeer that made me want to reproduce the painting. Reproducing these paintings stroke by stroke almost allows you to experience the painting through the painter's eyes. Just like reading the book or reading about the painter, reproducing the painting allows for a whole new experience.

Thank you for your lovely critique. I also did a reproduction of 'Girl with a Water Pitcher'. See if you like it.

Ok, I did my research on Vermeer and I share the same reverence for this man of great works. When you asked me where I LIVED in commenting on the architecture in my gallery, I could have been more descriptive if if I asked you to picture the bourgoise life of that artist almost forgotten. But now the 'headlight' has shown me the way. I have a new interest.

I have a heritage of perfectionist craftsmen. For example we tend to line up the slot on a screw to be all vertical - even if it strips the threads! Now, when viewing all of everyone's 'best efforts' on DA I have come to realize how foolish I have been in waiting to show something that is perfect. My goal is to show a body of work, like everyone else, that is good.
Could you be helping me to verify in my own words my alter ego to also be 'the Bohemian life'?

There's a book by Cynthia Voigyt, I believe it's called Elske, that is based off of that painting, it's a good read. You might enjoy it.

I agree on the beauty of this work.....have you ever read the book or seen the movie about how it "might" have come about? If not, I suggest it. Both are awsome

I too, have always adored this painting. I am working on the re-creation right now. But god knows when it will be done. Beautiful work, like the painter, not a brush stroke in sight.........*sigh*
