Description 2005
Oil on Canvas
12"x6"
Private Collection, Oakville, Ontario, Canada

This piece was commissioned by a couple who basically wanted a copy of Secret Heart, but I refuse to do copies of pieces. I wanted to revisit the theme but with a different composition...

Your colors are wonderful! The intensity of the red with that green is brilliant, and the warm skin tones. I love finding great painters

This truly makes me sick. This is one of the most amazing pieces out of one of the most incredible galleries on DA and it has nearly ZERO attention. I absolutely LOVE every piece in your gallery. Your use of color and dramatic lighting is very powerful. I have one question though, what color did you use to ground this painting or any of your other portrait paintings? No matter what I do I can NEVER get colors like this. Oh yeah and your use of stroke is beautiful. Reminds me a little of Sargent just a little more ....refine but still with a lot of energy.

Thanks so much for your words. I use no underpainting...just go in with the pigment. I've often thought of using underpaintings...but never occurs to me at the time. Wish I had more helpful advice for you!
Thanks again

Damn. I don't know how you get colors like that with just a white canvas.

Friggen sweet man, one of these days I'm going to have to sit down and battle through oils. I love it!
