Description
36" x 24"Scratchboard and Ink
The client asked for a tiger coming out of the dark and he wanted him to be menacing - snarling even. You see he was in Vietnam and he said tigers were the thing that scared him the most when he was in the jungle at night. He wanted a picture to remind himself of that terrible beautiful creature that haunted his dreams....... tall order, right?? We settled on this pose since I didn't have any snarling references and I think he was happy in the end.
Got my tiger back from the client last week and had a professional photo taken of it. Now I can offer prints here and through my website. I have four maybe five more to collect and then I'm all caught up. Time consuming and expensive project!

But seriously. ohmigoshwow. Its hard to believe that this in not a real tiger. I feel like i could pet it from here from my screen. You have done an incredible job and should keep it up. You arent doing anything wrong but everything right. Keep going.

as always heather brilliant but i have to agree the front leg looks a liitle strange the paw looks wrong not that i know what it should look like but it doesnt look right ive found that sometimes you have to drift away from your reference and almost bastardize the image to get it to look right, some of the shadows on the leg and paw even though they are caused by the muscular structure underneath they look a little like they are surface cast shadows. Youve always told me to be honest with you so i hope i havent offended ya.
the rest of the pic is awesome

No not at all. I really like the front leg, actually, but I think in my original it's much darker. I adjusted the print a little to reflect it - not sure if it makes much of a difference though.. I had to do a lot of adjustments to the digital file and my first few passes were way too light - it's actually a very dark piece overall and I did not carry it down the leg as much as I should have. One of the things that I love about big cats is how knobby and bumpy their huge feet are so I chose to really follow my reference closely. It's a crap shoot. Thanks as always for your input!

at the end of the day heather everyones a critic and as long as your happy with it thats all that counts. Also a photo on the web is not the best format for having a piece of artwork critiqued. you know i love your work and its always difficult to find fault, take care and hopefully well talk soon

I know what I did now - and it was soooooo dumb. I kept thinking about what you said - you have such a good eye and I kept looking for what I was missing. I took the photo from up above the tiger so I'm actually looking down on him a little. That front leg hangs too low if he's just walking towards you, I should have adjusted the perspective a little so that we are on more of a level view with him. shit. Your opinion is so important to me so I'm really glad that you tell me exactly what you see. Thanks.

Heather, as always you absolutely stun me with your work. It is perfect in every way. I love the glassy eyes and nose, the paws and face are in perfect proportion. The ONLY thing I could possibly ad on such an amazing piece is maybe a bit more shading on the top of the head going up unto the neck area. It kind of looks like its joined together? I'm not sure if thatβs what you were going for, but other then that its truly amazing. I LOVE your work!
FOUR DAYS!?!? I..am stunned.

That's amazing! I totally love how much details you put into your work, 'specially the fact that the viewer is able to see every hair of the tiger's fur is awesome
Stunning and breathtaking work!

What a gaze...! *hypnotised*
I'm amazed, as usual, but as for possible fixing, isn't the nose maybe a bit too wrinkled? As if he (he?) was baring teeth. Nevertheless, it's great, including the orange. Looks alive.

Thanks so much! Sorry for the pathetically delayed response, it just got away from me! I made changes here and there, I just barely delivered it to the client last month. They seemed happy with it in the end.
