Lovely pic, but for me it has never been a raven, but an eagle.
I think there is some reasons behind why Rowena would choose an eagle, especially when reading some of her backstory. First, she's known to be 'beautiful yet slightly intimidating', and I personally think this fits very well with an eagle more so than a raven. They are powerful birds, big and proud.Β
Secondly, there is some mentions of Albania in HP, it's where her daughter decided to hide the Diadem after all. What is Albania's flag? An eagle. I don't think this is a coincidence, but that Albania has some meaning to the Ravenclaw family. Now, we know they cannot be from Albania, because Rowena is from Scotland. If you look up what 'Scotland' is in Gaelic, however, it's 'Alba' and in the middle ages, Alba was known as 'Albania'.Β
This I feel is was what JK was inspired by, making the Ravenclaw family, and thus why they have an Eagle as their sigill.Β Β Β

It is an eagle in the book and first movies ( as the image I've put on my drawing ) and in french it's named serdaigle which means eagleclaws. But I don't really know why it's named ravenclaws and the logo changed =o But I've to say I prefere the raven version, that's why I draw it like that =3Β

In the books it has always been an eagle, and the colours blue and bronze. It was purely a change that happened in the movies, so for me the books will always hold a stronger value than the films regarding how canon they are..

Actually in the books it's alway been blue and silver as gryffindor is maroon and bronze. However i do agree that its mascot IS an eagle
And in the actual canon it has always BEEN an eagle. (It really should be raven cosidering its called ravenclaw but thats besides the point)Β

It was definitely /not/ blue and silver in the books, it was blue and bronze. The blue was a symbol of the sky, and the bronze the colour of an eagle soaring through it to represent the element of air. If you need further convincing, because apparently it was some time ago since you read the books, then here you go;Β
'When they went down to breakfast on the morning of the thirtieth of October, they found that the Great Hall had been decorated overnight. Enormous silk banners hung from the walls, each of them representing a Hogwarts House: red with a gold lion for Gryffindor, blue with a bronze eagle for Ravenclaw, yellow with a black badger for Hufflepuff, and green with a silver serpent for Slytherin.'Β

Ps. The reason it's named Ravenclaw, is because they are done after the name of the founders. I offered my ideas as to why Rowena Ravenclaw decided to go with an eagle in my first comment

I never understood why it's an eagle. Slytherin chose a snake and Gryffindoor has a lion (1/2 of a Gryffin)

I love the art itself, but I don't like how you chose the crow and silver as in the movies, rather that the eagle and bronze, as in the books. I, myself, prefer silver over bronze, but as a Ravenclaw, I would never trade my colors for any other. Good job anyway!
