A quickie sketch did in an attempt to update the character that got me into comics, Rom the Spaceknight. It seems that, around the Marvel offices that handle the new "Ultimate" line, the term " Ultimate ROM" is used as a joke. Being a fan of the character, I kinda took offence at that and decided to redesign him with a more modern look than he had.In addition to going for a more " realistic" style, I gave him fingers (the original looked like he was wearing mittens), a single red eye (I just thought it looked cool), and streamlined his main weapon, the Neutralizer, into a more fearsome-looking handgun than it was.
Frankly, the disrespect the character gets is unwarranted. I mean, he's directly responsible for the power neutralizers that keep getting waved around in the various X-Men books, not to mention he's the reason Rogue first turned into a good-guy anyway.

Unfortunately, everything that made "ROM: SPACEKNIGHT" the comic we love is owned by Marvel. The Spaceknights, the Dire Wraiths, Brandy, Hybrid, Galador...all created by Bill Mantlo in the Marvel comic. I'll check it out, though, if only to see what this new thing that has the name of the character that got me into comics will be like, at least.

ROM and his fellow spaceknights were a great concept! The female dire wraith scared the crap outta me when they first appeared.
Someone needs to get the rights back from Parker Bros., or whoever holds it, and redo it, or continue it .

Heh yeah Rom and Shogun Warriors got me in. I once had a story and designs for Rom but in the never had a chnace Manga line Marvel had back. Anyway awesome design...any plans to make that gold female Rom?

I liked ROM, Shogun Warriors, Strikeforce:Morituri, Psi Force and Shang-Chi. But, Heckfire, your redesign is awesome, all your changes make him even better than he was.
