Darkness all around you. It was silent. Except for this very familiar voice that called out for you. You could instantly recognize it even in a long way run. That voice reminded you of home. Inside your heart, you trusted this voice and decided to follow it. Guiding you through the darkness in every direction. Finally, leading you to this light at the end of this dark maze. A little confused for why the voice had guide you all the way to here.

You weren't very sure if it was decided to safe to go through here. It felt as if you just died then brought back as a ghost. You stood there for a minute or two, thinking about it very carefully if you wanted to go towards the light. Anxious and nervous was all that could define you right now.

You came to a conclusion, you decided to trust the unknown for leading you here. Inhaling deeply then releasing it out slowly. Taking baby steps into the light.

Squinting your [e·c] eyes tightly as ghostly arms shield your eyes. All around you was brightness. It stung sharply into the core of your eyes. The voice got deeper and deeper as you made your way across through.

As you reached its peak, vividly opening them. You found tall block, buildings around you. They made you feel small. They made you when you were a little kid, you wanted to explore beyond the walls and around the world. But that dream was shattered since you knew the world was big and you were only small.

Why am I here? Why does this feel very familiar?

"[First]! Get inside now!" The voice scolded you from not too far from behind. "You haven't made your bed or cleaned the dishes!"

You turned around to see who it was who was nagging you to do chores. Within you, you could feel you heart shatter at the sight of your mother. Well-being, healthy conditions not dismantled and shattered. Warm tears filled your eyes as they started to burn on your cool cheeks.

In a heartbeat you ran as fast as you could towards her with your arms opened wide. Enveloping her into a tight hug, feeling her warm embrace around you once again. You felt at home. Safe and sound again as a child in your mother's arms. Wishing to never wake up from this dream and go back into it's nightmare of a world. Or time pace slowly. Sadly, that couldn't happen. Reality decided to step in. Darkness regained its form again. Her warm embrace began to fade away, departing you. You felt as if you were being pulled back from her. All you could see was her warm smile waving goodbye at you for one last time before dispersing into thin air. She was gone.

Shot awake in the middle of the night. You sat upright in your bunk, a sad mess and heavily panting. It was nothing more but a dream. It felt so real, though. A hard lump forming in the middle of your throat as you tried all you could to not cry. Crying made you feel even more of a weakling.

You let out a sigh, as you knew you weren't going to be able to sleep again after this. Now that you were awake, you decided to get out of bed, doing what your heart contented to relax yourself. Without second thought, you didn't care if you went out barefooted, without a jacket, and pants on. It didn't matter either way, your dorm was just around the corner.

What did matter was how the hell you were going to get over there to the exit without awakening your corporal? His dorm was near the exit of the hallway.

Well, it wouldn't be so bad if you tried. Maybe if you tip-toed as light as you could, maybe you could succeed. You stood up on how much you could on your toes, taking very cautious steps. You sighed in relief that the floorboard don't creak. Setting your feet down to walk normally again.

Right about when you thought the coast was clear. You took only two steps and-

CREAK, C-CREAAAK.

"Goddamn you. Stupid floorboards," you muttered scornfully at the ground.

Standing once again on your tippy-toes, you skeeted towards the door. You opened it quickly and closed it quietly behind you. You haven’t felt this sneaky since the last time you decided to steal a bag of potatoes with Sasha and Connie. Those two dorks. You gotta love them.

The cool autumn air made contact with the air. Building up small goosebumps along the open areas of your skin. You felt like a popsicle that had gone straight into the freezer. The coldness of the night had struck your toes frozen, unable to move them. You wobbled your way down to the end of the porch.

It was a beautiful night where the moon was bright and glistened, the breeze was just right. You caught yourself staring outward into the tall trees where they bend and regain back its shape, thinking about the dream you had. You knew, you had to carry the burden you witnessed as kid. Mother wouldn't of approved of you becoming a soldier.  You decided to. For her, though. It was for the best than to hide behind a wall. Hide from your fears like a coward instead of facing them. You wanted to stop running and fight.

On the other hand, Rivaille would approve this. He was the one who encouraged you to be strong even though the world is tough. Face your fears and demons, and be a brave soldier.

You could say that Rivaille was the man you looked up to the most? Your hero? Or the man you could possibly start having feelings towards to?

Of course you do. You couldn't deny it yourself. It was something about him that made you start thinking about him. Unable to get him out of your head. It was unbelievable how flustered you'd get whenever you would catch him staring at you. At the same time, it felt wrong. Strangely wrong. He was one of the higher ups. It'd make him look wrong to be with a subordinate like you.

You let a shaky sigh out into the air. The memory of what occurred hours ago replayed itself inside your head. It made you fell indifferent from the others. But why would he have picked you instead of someone else? You didn't consider yourself the best or better than anyone else. Your skills in the battlefield were where they needed to be. You were the average type in combat. You were just you.

But the truth you had realized was that you were actually lucky to be chosen by him. Even, thought you felt very insecure or doubtful about yourself. You were truly grateful for it. Since, Rivaille would keep watch on you and care for you. And for that, you accepted the job you were assigned as.

A serenity smile formed itself upon your features. You gazed your eyes upon the stars, trying to find the constellation that reminded you of home. The great bear and little bear constellation. Your mother said that if something happens to her or her time is done, that if you ever miss her that you just search for those two stars.

Who would have known things would of happened this way?

You really did miss her a lot. Yet, you were tired of holding back your tears. She would have told you to be strong and if you needed to cry, then cry because you're bottling up all your fears inside. You decided to take her old memorable advice. It hurt so much to remember her old sayings. Her comforting words. All those memories spent with her in your childhood, gone now. You felt your shoulders tensed upwards, trying to surpass a stifling sob, but failing to do so. Suspending your head downward, crying into the palms of your hands, feeling the warm tears submerged into your skin.

Lifting your arm up to wipe the snob off your nose to then clutching your hands into a ball to wipe your eyes. You arose your head upward to the home constellations.

“I will do whatever it takes to survive in this world. For you mother. Even if it takes my whole being to do so, whether I die or live. I will not fail you or Rivaille. But, I promise you. You'll always be part of me," you softly whispered into the air.

Sniffling, you laid yourself to rest against the wooden floor in a fetal position. Letting the tiredness consume you again. You didn't want to navigate all over again just to sneak back into your room. The only option left was to camp outside here until sunrise. Hopefully, it wouldn't take so long for it to rise. Or for you to catch a cold. You snuggled yourself in tightly, clutching your knees tightly inside to your chest to keep you somewhat warm. Shutting your tiresome eyes to rest.

A few moments before you were soundly asleep, Rivaille stepped out from the shadows from the small crease of the door that left opened. He was quietly observing and overhearing what you had said. So much for his previous thug life in the past managed to work out somethings such as sneak behind someone without knowing your presence.

“Idiot.” Rivaille muttered to himself as he caught the peaceful sight of you. Gaining notice of your form and the way you had slept in. Noticing that your body was slightly shaking. He shook his head.

“This goddamn woman. Who decides to sleep out in the cold without no pants on," he quietly spoke. He began to remove off his shirt and jacket. Draping it over your curved figure to keep you warm.

“Hmph, you better be true to yourself, [First]. I can assure you that we won't know what our future lies in front of us. You better do your damnest in order to survive for another day," Rivaille spoke, compassion hinted in his usual monotone voice. He caressed your cheek, brushing some strands of hair away from your hair. "I'm counting on you. Make me proud.”

A smile tugged on the side of your lip, spreading its way across your face, relishing the warmth that had consumed your body.

Rivaille's face softened at the way you looked. Naturally beautiful under the moonlight. Hoping to never see you this peaceful in your very last moments. To that day, where his squad and yourself were gone. He would become broken. Since it's already happened once with his old friends. He couldn't live to let it happen again.

Rivaille sighed out into the air. He wouldn't mind resting for a while outside here just to keep watch on you. In case a bear or a titan would take you away. Rivaille slumped himself down against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest. Shooting one last glance at you. "Goodnight, [First]," he murmured quietly before letting himself go to rest.

"I will lay a bed before you; keep you safe until the end."
