Technically it wasn't Jesus' creation. So god sacrificed his own child to save a world of people who seem destined to destroy each other simply over either not wanting to believe or having a slight variation in belief.
Also Christianity is the only religion which uses a device of torture as its symbol, that makes you think doesn't it? And I do indeed wonder, if Jesus does return, if he'll be thrilled to see the same device that he died on, painfully I might add, lauded and shown to the world as a symbol of hope and salvation. Its almost as bad as what the Nazi state did with the swastika, taking a symbol, much older than Jesus or even the bible (chapters allowed of course), and turning it into one of hate and dogma. But even though that's happened, its still what it was before all that. The same is true of the cross. Its method of killing people. Slowly. Painfully. Its not a symbol that your saviour would welcome coming back too, why not go to JFK's widow and give her a sniper rifle, I'm sure she'd appreciate it.
