sorry took so long, I got caught in the traffic, oh dear, looks like you wet yourself, lets get you all cleaned up. I'll take your brace off and get you into the bathroom then once you are clean and dry I'll put your brace back on for you.

Of course, I understand perfectly, it was a pity that you were left in such a helpless position for such a long time but like I said, I'll always help to clean you up and get your poor little useless leg back into it's brace. You know how I love to caress your little leg and play with it and then massage it with warmed baby oil before putting your brace back on for you, I know how cold it gets unless it gets a nice massage at least once a day.

You really do take the best care of me. And it's true that my leg does get very cold. The circulation isn't very good -- that's what ended things with my other leg, you know. I have to be so careful, or I'll be left without a leg to stand on.

Ooh, we cant have that, we really have to take very special care of that one lonely leg especially with the cooler weather. I'll be over straight away to tenderly massage it and make it warm before slipping on a nice warm knee high sock and then gently strapping your brace back on again. Whenever you want me you just call and I'll be there. I just love you and your poor thin little leg. Next time I will bring you a pretty new shoe to fit to your brace. Just because you have to wear a brace doesn't mean you have to wear an ugly shoe.

It's such a relief to know you understand. Most people think there's little point trying to have a nice shoe when it goes into a big metal brace. Of course it still has to be sturdy and supportive, but I've always longed to have a red shoe. Do you think I could? With the cold weather coming now, I probably should stop wearing short skirts and sheer stockings, but I still try hard to look feminine if I can, despite my limitations.

Ooh, how about a red patent maryjane with a 3/4" strap over your instep and a buckle to match the buckle on the ankle strap of your brace and a one inch heel so the brace would still fit nicely and still be able to give you the support your poor paralysed leg needs. In the cold weather I think you ought to be wearing opaque white tights to keep your leg warm and to show off the pretty shoe to it's best advantage. When spring comes maybe white knee highs(or should that be knee high?).
I think a red maryjane shoe and a white stocking would look very seasonal (or should that be sensational?).

When I was a little girl, before I got polio, I used to take dancing lessons. My tap dance shoes were red maryjanes, and I loved them so much! Of course it's silly for me to think about dancing now, but to have a red maryjane again would make me very happy. As long as my orthopedist says it's OK, I would like a shoe like that very much. Tights are trickier, because my leg is so thin. I have to order a special kind with extra elastic so it doesn't get all saggy. I've got black ones and white ones for winter.
