The first of a few sketchdumps; Les Miserables has really taken over my brain. I think these are dated in May 2008 or June 2008? I'm not entirely sure. You should see me getting better in these and also changing some character designs (Damn you, Marius. I just can't get him right!) Critiques would HIGHLY appreciated on all of these since I need people telling me more of what they think so and so looks like, etc.Man, I love this book/musical. Javert lives! Sorry for big image size.

Oh my goodness these are amazing! Eponine is absolutely perfect, and I especially like the side view of her with the hat in the lower left corner. And Javert is dead-on. Kudos to you!Β

I really like your portrayal of the character designs for them. I haven't seen the musical or movie, so I don't know how much is "borrowed". It makes me feel there should be an animation of Les Mis, like how they did for Hunchback of Notre Dame...

There is actually a fan made anime version of Les Miz. Its called Shoujo Cosette. Its not on youtube but if you search it on google you can watch full episodes

Ah I watched some of that a long time ago. It was...strange but interesting. But it would be cool to have had one in a more Disneyesque style I think, like this

But, anyway! I LOVE Eponine's design. Adorable.

This is really awesome! If they made a Les Miserables Disney movie (which would probably be suicide for the company because of...well you know... 'cough'Lovely Ladies'cough') the characters would look like this! Beautiful work! P.S. My bro was Javert in his school musical!!

i <3 Javert. He's my favorite. I read the book a few weeks ago, and I couldn't believe how much more tragic it was with Javert than in the musical. Still love the musical though.

As for Marius, just keep drawing him over and over again. Whenever I have trouble drawing a character I just draw them again and again from a basic straight on angle.
And just so you know, the hands are lovely.

They're quite good with that mid-80's to mid-90's Disney clean-line style. I'm currently reading Les Miserables (200pgs into it) and it's expertly written and captivating. It's wonderful you try to capture their visage in this way. Javert is quite good.
