Description
'Thamnophis gracile' (South American pygmy snake), for a field guide.Β Painting the iridescent scales was quite a challenge. I'm not quite sure if I like it yet, if time allows I might work a bit more on the reflections. Rarely have I cursed a work so much. (I don't curse very often. Honest.)
I will get back to other animals, once I have this book finished... I promise! I just don't have the time for *anything* else right now.

That work looks very great. Do you have any photo of that animal?

My first impression of this drawing was "what a nice effect with the reflections!" so I think it works
Very inspiring to me, too, because I like to draw snakes in the next time, but have no idea how to do the scales and pattern...

That's beautiful! The colours re just gorgos I can only imagine how hard it was to get all of that detail, but it's spot on

It's gorgeous, Claudia. And, the reflections are my favorite part!! The purple compliments it perfectly.

Wow, painting iridescent scales must be a pain!! I sometimes had references where reptiles had these scales too and they were the reason why I chose another photo/species for painting ^^ But it looks realistic here, I like it

I first left them away for exactly this reason. But then I thought it would be a shame not to try, as this is a feature of this species. And I do like a challenge. I only painted it in a few spots, so it wasn't too bad.

Incredibly vibrant colors and clean lines! What brand of colored pencils do you use?

Thank you! I use Faber-Castell colour pencils. The vibrant colours in this one are my acrylic paints, though. The pencil is merely the under paint before I fill it in with acrylics.
