I don’t watch Young Justice, but I did happen to catch an episode featuring a character I thought was Black Manta, only to have him take off his helmet and reveal the Hottest Man In The Universe. Who, in turn, was later revealed to be Aqualad. Aqualad. Worst name + worst mentor = coolest guy? I don’t know, maybe it’s like two negatives making a positive or something.Related content

Aqualad's actually Black Manta's son... but you most likely knew that by now. And it's ironic, that Black manta's son serves Aquaman, who has his own son killed by Black Manta. The irony is so thick, it's thicker than blood.

Aquaman is a great mentor; that whole 'talking to fish' thing was reconted to 'telepathically dominating sea animals to do his bidding'. He is nearly as strong as Superman, and has the advantage if the battle goes under water. The King of Atlantis also has access to an arsenal of techno-magical weapons, and an army of soldiers, scientists, and sorcerers.
He's a very misused character.
Kaldor'am (Aqualad) is a pretty cool. In the first season of Young Justice he was The Team's field leader, but in the second season it's revealed that he's on a deep-cover mission to infiltrate Black Manta's organization, under the justifications that Black Manta was Kaldor's father and that Kaldor's love (Tula/Aqualass) had died on a mission for The Team.
I agree that 'Aqualad' is probably the worst name (outside the Legion of Superheroes' Matter-Eater Boy), and he's outgrown the costume in the series finale, but he's still a pretty cool character. I would have liked to have seen more of him in Season 3, but, alas, DC Animated and/or Cartoon Network decided to not renew for a third season.

the guys strength was enough to knock down superman by surprise more than once

a high ranking badass actually, founding member of the justice league, leader of his own personal league with each member owning some of the most powerful magical artifacts in the world, king of over 71% of Earth's surface, owns an entire army of super-humans with high super strength & durability, also having some of the most advanced technology and many powerful wizards under his influence
don't mess with the King of Atlantis, you'll be facing his entire continent
also he cut off his own hand to save his son in JLA unlimited, like dang man animated Aquaman was metal as fuck you can't deny the high level of badassery there
