!!!! My first watercolor piece on this thing!! 
Tis of Sumomo and Chii.. This one took about 3-6 hours.. I lost track 
I'm pretty slow but I'm very happy with how this came out... despite that I only had like 6 watercolor shades to work with, lol. The only thing that kinda irks me is the purplish area right above Sumomo's head. -_-x Yea... But other than that.. Kat ish very happy!Chii and Sumomo (c) CLAMP

I didn't know whether to make this edit minor or not ._______.; Since it's not really a minor change but I didn't wanna go through the trouble of notifying my watchers so yeah
I shrank the original dimensions from 973x707 pixels to 683x497 and added a border to make it look like a photo

Umm... I first started off with a pencil sketch of what I wanted to draw and transfered it on to watercolor paper. It's good to use a 140lb. paper (or something thicker) so that it doesn't wrinkle up when you paint like regular printer paper does.
And then start watercoloring. It's best that you start with a really light colors (by using a really watered down pigment) and then progress to getting darker and darker colors for the shading by adding more pigment.
For the skin tones, I mixed some "667 Raw Sienna" with yellow and a tiny, TIIINY bit or red and watered it down. Other than that the only advice I could give is to just experiment with the colors on a separate sheet of regular paper.
The AquaFine brand of watercolors might be a lil expensive, but those were the ones I used and they're pretty good quality.
It's almost like coloring with really runny markers if you use those soft bristle brushes, they work really nicely with the paint and paper. Those cheap Crayola watercolors that you get with the paints and brushes together don't quite work as well since the brushes aren't that flexible and too hard.
You also want to do the lineart (if you're going to have one) last and wait till the painting is dry before you put it in. I used a "0 scriptliner" brush or you could just use a fine point water-proof pen.
Using a paper towel is quite handy as well while you're working with the paints if you wanna blot out any mistakes or make a blotchy-looking bg like how I have here.

Ahh... yeah another work of CLAMP's that I really like is xxxHolic... I guess it's my new obsession -*o*-! If you're into like.. trippy philosophical, "makes-you-wanna-think" stories and weird, supernatural things then it's a good series to read.

Yeah my old bf gave me the anime DVDs but I have to say I prefer the manga (which my sister likes to read). It's more aesthetic and it gives you a lil more detail ^^

Yeah!! I know what you mean! Everytime I'd do a non-referenced, freehand sketch of her I could never get her expression quite right or something about her just looks "off."

for your first watercolour this is pretty good, your shading is in more or less
all the right areas as well as the contrast ^w^.......that and I'm quite amazed at how you can keep the proportions reasonable after the colouring process is done with.......TT-TT *envy's you*, that's usualy one of my bigger downfalls when I use watercolours (sucks at controlling the amount of water used) lol
p.s. as for the purple above sumomo's head.........well, the only thing I could suggest would be to either try and photoshop it, or add similiar purple patches throughout the pic to even things off ^^

p.s. you really shouldn't worry too much about using Pshop for minor editing like that lol. because if I remember correctly, DA states that 'if you think that your work is more traditional than digital, you can submit it to traditional' an vice versa..(so it's more or less left up to how you feel about it)..
