i used Photoshop CS
create a new layer above the de-saturated image
set the blending options of the new layer to "soft light" and start brushing with the desired color
thats about it

I really like what you've done with the origional. How did you manage to get such acurate rainbow effects?

i used curves and really bright colors and brushed on a layer with the blending more set to soft light
