just a little side project from a college short story:
(inspired from the Fear of the dark)

The Tail of the Shadow Wraith

This tale begins, with two bandits sneaking out of the woods and happen upon a refugee camp that is a few miles away from a war zone between countries. Therefore, they kidnap a random kid and leave a note for the refugee's stating if they ever want to see this kid again meet us at the nearby caves and make sure you bring a lot of money in exchange for the kid. After leaving the note, these bandits run off with the child to a cave five miles from the refugee camp cave. The bandits wait deep inside the cave waiting for the refugees to bring the ransom. A few hours pass by, the bandits start to get impatient, but lucky for them the refugees decided to come rescue the child and confront the bandits. However, the bandits are across a bridge deep inside the cave opposite side of the refugees, they try to negotiator, but the refugees claim that they have nothing to offer for the kid except a few dollars and a few pocket watches. The deal starts to go sour, the kid notices it and try's to struggle out of the bandits hold and get away, but this ends horrifically for the kid. He breaks free of the Bandits hold on the bridge and loses his footing brakes through the floor of the bridge and plummets straight down into the dark abyss below. The Bandits and refugee are in shock and look out from the side of the bridge and finally, hear the kid make a thunderous thud hitting the cave floor. Out of the blue, one of refugee's throws a torch off the side of the bridge and after a few seconds it lands on the bottom, they see the kid died and then the refugee's turn to the bandits, however after they turned back they all hear a loud scream from down below. In an instant, all the refugees and bandits look down where the kid has fallen, and they see nothing but blood and that the torch flame has turned black, but still visible to them. Consequentially, right after that they look back at the bandits and one is missing and the other is looking straight up at something. So in return, the refugees look up as well, seeing something dark that has hold of the second bandit on the cave ceiling. This creature seems to be a black wraith-like being and it has its hand through the chest of the second bandit draining out his soul through his chest with its hand and they see this bandit starts to lose all signs of life going limp and his eyes and hair turning to white. In response to this, the refugees and the remaining bandit start to scream and attempt to run away out of the cave, but not even halfway out they notice that the cave's exit has vanished. Sadly, the first group never escaped the cave. The very next day another group of refugees arrives at the cave and look around inside to horrifically find nothing, but burnt out torches and bloody remains spread across the cave and they happen to find 1 survivor. The bandit mutters the darkness rises, the light will fall-ith, the wraith will devour the souls of the living and the damned and even the pure of heart. After muttering these words several times, the bandit starts to decompose and turn to dust. Then the second refugee group hears a loud shrieking scream and the group proceeds to run out of the cave and then they rush back to their camp. Legend has it that these kids, that go missing their bones and the sounds of their screams are said to be found in the very cave where the shadow wraith was first born. Was it a coincidence that this shadow wraith was born from a freak accident between bandits and refugee's, the answer is, it was not because that very child that fell off the bridge is a descendant of a near-extinct sadistic Demon worshiping clan and the very place this child died was his clan's ancient ritual chamber.

speed: 30.5 meters per second

lifespan: unknown (it can live forever as long as its in a dark place with very little light, ya it can go in the light but it is weakened by it and slows it down by 15 meters per second, but if there is shadows anywhere it would run right into it and still exist, but if it was in a place with no shadows it would disperse and cease to exist)

(yes it only has hands to rip people apart, no giant blades)
