Description I survived against the will of my twisted folk
But in the deafness of my world the silence broke
And said
Follow me down to the valley below
You know
Moonlight is bleeding from out of your soul.

~ Porcupine Tree - Lazarus

This literally took me forever. Seriously.
Buut - I finished it! At least kind of... I guess I could have spent another eternity tweaking and perfecting and stuff, but now I just had to get it out of my system.
So this is - quite obviously - the scene from the very beginning of ME2 where you wake up after being killed in action and then recovered by the Lazarus Project.
I am actually quite happy with how it turned out - I wanted her to look a bit rugged (after all, being patched up after you got spaced won't leave you looking too Victoria's Secret-esque... but hey at least the lipstick is in place) and emotionless, since I felt she would be way too confused and still in shock to really grasp what is going on around her.

I used a screenshot of my favorite Femshep Sara Shepard (Renegade, Ruthless, Earthborn) for the pose, but apart from that, it was all from scratch.
The background is veeery sloppy, but as said, eventually I just wanted to finish this.
This was done in GIMP with an Aiptek tablet.

I hope you like it, feel free to leave any feedback, I'd really appreciate it!!

Oh the Porcupine Tree song just matched the topic/title of this quite well (duh), plus it's a really really nice song and you should listen to it.

It almost looks 3D, haha. That's pretty awesome. The eyes especially look incredibly good.

Thanks! They're probably my favourite part too...

Love it! I really love the way you paint hair. It's like, there's not a whole lot of definition to it but my brain is sort of tricked into seeing definition anyway because of the highlights and lowlights. All of the textures look great for that matter. And her facial expression definitely fits perfectly with everything you said in the description

Thanks a lot!
I'm really glad you like it, though it's not really anything I actually do on purpose - I just don't know any better (yet). Still a rookie after all...

Haha honestly that's kind of how I am - I'm totally self-taught so I end up just looking at pictures for reference and experimenting with different brushes until I get something that looks like the reference. So no worries, your "rookie" art looks awesome!

Same here thanks! Just out of curiosity, how long have you been doing digital art?

Not very long, actually. I bought my tablet as a birthday present to myself in late 2011 and only used it once before going back to pencils for awhile - I got frustrated with it really fast because it was hard to get used to. But then when the Hunger Games movie was gonna come out last spring, I started doing a lot of Hunger Games-related art and dug my tablet back out and gave it another go. And I've been using it ever since then! So really it's only been a little over a year I'm glad I gave it another try because it has been so much fun to use!

I know exactly what you mean with the "hard getting used to" part... my tablet also sat in my shelf for quite a while before I started using it. Actually I hadn't been doing anything art-wise for some time - I used to draw and paint all the time as a child and teenager, but just stopped eventually. It's only been a little over two months since I started drawing again, so somehow it's still all new and shiny and now I find the tablet a lot more fun to use than pencils and stuff...

And I totally know what you mean by that. I feel bad because pencils have always been my forte, but it just really is a lot more fun to use the tablet and actually see stuff in color, especially because I do a lot of concept art for a story I'm working on and all of my original characters, and it really helps me visualize what's happening. I still try to go back to pencils every once in awhile, but it's hard

Beautiful! I think you definitely captured both Shepard's strength and the shock of the situation
