i prefer to make more details when i'm doing a big and fine work.
But talking about doodle this quick - it's all about light and color that was taking all my attention.
Doing this kind of stuff on a regular basis will help you to achieve more solid color and develop a feeling of light. So when you start a new epic-many-hours-to-spend painting you will have a like stock of material within your head to use in it)
