Description
Another batch of quick drawings that I've been doing in-between environment concepts, this time of the new designs for RWBY's Season 4, with some artistic licence in regards to the powers displayed. And just like last time, I got carried away with some of these more than others.I have no idea why I like RWBY so much. It's a generic action anime, with 3D animation that puts you off, and cheesy lines coming out every orifice, even AFTER the tone-shift. Regardless, October 22nd can't come soon enough.

Whenever I see Yang, my brain just shouts, "Carnivore, carnivore!" from Starset's song, Carnivore.
It shouts that because that's the song that inspired the Carnivore AU (a.k.a. my own personal hell.).

Yang's suddenly become Velvet Crowe from Tales of Berseria. I have no problem with this.

Velvet is a character with a similar giant red and black murder arm. She's also constantly angry.

Okay...I can imagine a scenario with this interpretation of Yang:
Yang is lying back on a tree, moping as usual. Shattered. Hollow. A shell of her former self. Suddenly, a bomb comes in and blasts in the distance. Yang gets up and decides to run to where it is. What she saw causes her eyes to widen in shock: the White Fang are attacking Patch. Multiple people are either killed or wounded, many buildings set ablaze. But most heart-wrenching if them all for her is the sight of Taiyang, a massive slash wound from his lower right back to his left shoulder. He's passed out, but the position he's in makes her think the White Fang killed him. She slowly lowers her head, her world becoming more broken then it is. She suddenly starts getting flashes. Herself being surrounded by Atlesian troops after being framed at the Vytal Tournament. Penny being bisected. Vale in ruins by the Grimm. Pyrrha being shot in the heart by Cinder. Yang's arm being cut off by Adam. Finally, a single solitary figure within a wildfire. The figure looks behind them. The figure is Blake, a somber expression on her face. During the flashes, Yang gets angrier and angrier. After she sees the flash with Blake in a wildfire, she snaps. Her eyes snap open, glowing an intense red. She then lets out a roar of rage that would put even the most beastly of Grimm to shame, some of her rage manifesting into a monster-like right arm. The White Fang spots her, and attempt to capture her. They end up brutally murdered instead. Yang stands in a puddle of blood and guts from the White Fang members. She looks down at her right arm. As she looks at it, she realizes that her spark has been reignited. She then says, "My fire...it's been reignited. I burn again." She looks up at the distance from the shore of the island, then says, "And soon, all of you...the mother who left my family behind *Flash of Raven*...the man who framed me *Flash of Mercury*...the woman who destroyed Vale *Flash of Cinder*...the bastard who cut my arm off *Flash of Adam*...and you...Blake...YOU ALL WILL BURN WITH ME!!!", the last six words hollered out in primal rage. She is neither the cheery, fun-loving girl she was, or the moping depressed girl she was, but is now a wrathful, enraged, and cynical girl. Nothing, not even her friends and sister, can stop her vengeance. She will have it one way or another.

ok so lets see...I think
the bird represents Weiss's need for freedom, the shadow represents blake dealing with her dark side, and the black arm represents yang becoming so enraged with anger, she's turning into a monster. ruby has nothing...ok I just have to say this but...DOES ANYONE ELSE THINK RUBY IS JUST A BACKGROUND CHARACTER? she's shown with no weaknesses, she gets off scot free and gets a new team straight away, and she awakened a deuxmachina that can instantly kill grimm (but to kill the wyvern she needs mastery) for a character who she had, NO important development with. its just that...I like her character I really do, but its the lack of screen time, her development, her talking about herself. yang Weiss and balke talk about her but she never explains herself most of the time, and we need to see ruby have doubts about herself, reflect on her action and try and develop with her. it would of been good development if she told Weiss about her mom, and Weiss understood how she felt, or maybe she should of gotten a school bully, or a dull weapon but learns how to master it, or even had a more traumatic experience...But dud I love your artwork, top notch.

Aye, Ruby basically got forgotten for most of Volume 3, but I think she'll get more focus in V4. I hope. She's my favorite character.

Weaknesses: Like Weiss, Ruby is almost useless without her weapon. She was almost killed by Neo, Roman and Mercury in volume 3 because she didn't have her weapon. Ruby was going to have an emotional breakdown because of Penny's death but returned to the fight none the less.
Character Development: Ruby grew more mature in volume 1 as her role as a leader and has fully accepted the role in volume 3. She's grown more social; complimenting practical stranger Mercury in V2 and becomes more friendly with teams CFVY and SSSN in V3. If we put V1 Ruby in place of V3 Ruby, she'd probably be as annoying as V1 Weiss.
Nothing Bad Happens To Ruby: Saving people from danger is one of the main reasons why Ruby wanted to become a huntress. So when she failed to save Penny and Pyrrha, it mentally shook her. All because she wasn't fast enough and her Semblance is Speed. All of this sorrow was a catalyst for Ruby to unknowingly activate her silver eyes, freezing (not killing) the dragon.
Reflecting On Actions: Everything Ruby has done has been in the name of being a Huntress. Even if those things are suicidal or dangerous. Ruby drew attention to herself in V1 to save Sun from Roman. She followed the WF members in V2 to investigate (she wasn't warned about the underground caves). And in volume 3 she climbed onto Roman's ship to stop the virus in the robots.
Hope this was helpful and you'd get a better understanding of Ruby's character.

I can see that and I respect your point of view...however you have to admit, penny wasn't real, her feelings weren't real, and if you were to build an exact copy, nothing would change, which shows how much of a child is within ruby, crying over a broken toy, and she was based on Pinocchio, which was a toy. pyrrha was one of my most favourite characters. her death was a tragic yet beautiful send off to the character that is dear to our hearts. however ruby...doesn't have a bond with her, the only valuable screen time, was V3 EP10, and that was 2 episode prier to the end, and that symbolizes that ruby will awaken the silver eyes for anyone she knows. if it were her uncle qrow and she did it in volume 6, that would be a brilliant display of development. ruby never talks about anything to anyone. she seems like the protected poster child and more character have more valuable screen time. the tale of her mother's death is very upsetting and it breaks my heart, and a little 5 year old girl losing her mother, her best friend, her teacher, her role model, passing on. but she never mentions her to very valuable characters, like Weiss may of suffered the same lost and they could of shared their despair, and one of their reason for becoming huntress's, is that of their mothers role as hero's, maybe their mother could of been fellow huntress's/ friends. yang seems to explain ruby's intentions, blake tries to protect the child that is in her team, and Weiss tries to teach in experienced girl how to mature, but we never see her develop on her own, monologue to herself, reflecting on her actions, despairing over the lost of her mother, but needing to grow up. we don'y know much about this girl with crimson short hair, eyes that are like silver moons, a face so innocent, it needs to see, reality. ruby as a whole needs to encounter a difficulty she can't beat without without a team. she needs more time, more development with other character, and screen time needs to be shared instead of used less with her...how was that?

Nothing about this piece is supposed to be allegorical. As for the criticism on Ruby... I kind of agree, she's dangerously close to being just another Mary Sue action anime protag.

its a rumour I heard...I haven't checked it lately but I think it could go for just seven and that's it...since monty past away they had cut some stuff away, like team jnpr was going to fight raven in a café, but because monty describes scenes like that, they had to cut some stuff. I think rwby's going end at 7-9 volumes, because of all the question (p.s. I think when roman said, "its not what I have to gain, but I can't afford to lose" might mean he has a daughter and some how this might all tie with roman as a criminal, because I think they wouldn't just leave that one line, make him the very first character we see in volume one and just kill him of with no meaning...I know its a stretch, but monty was very smart)
