Description

Something slightly different from me than usual. No tits or tentacles here

This painting was made for the current issue of ImagineFX, for the "Henning's 101: Composition" article. It's great fun writing this series of articles, and I also get to brush up my old and rusty theory skills as well.

Lookie: [link]

Painted with Photoshop with a Wacom tablet, as usual. I used some basic torus shapes in 3D Studio Max as guides for the perspective of the circles.

Definitely different than most of your work, but being an absolute sci-fi nut, I love it. Great job dude, I kind of hope you continue doing things like this occasionally.

Damn it. Being an old fashioned pencil/pen/brush guy (I know, how fossilised must i be?) I've only ever flicked through IFX in WHSmiths, going ooh, purty... now i may actually have to buy an issue (assuming I can find it - every WHS in glasgow seems to move the SF mags about randomly, while out in the backwaters like this I doubt even our big local newsagent'll stock something this specialist... Ah well, going to Braehead on Sunday anyway..

Hehe, thanks a lot. Can't you order it online? Would save you all the hazzle of finding it in magazine stands. I have a hard time finding it here in Athens too.

I know it's available in the city - as i say, i've flicked through it - and I'm heading to one of the BIG shopping centres (that's a Mall in american english) on Sunday anyway... although not for shopping...

Very nice! I haven't had the time to check out the issue yet (It's on my desk though!), it has some nice things to it, like the giant sci-fi rings, or the depth with the racing scooters hitting in... but also the small rocks and the environment in general... as good as ever Henning

I really enjoyed the article Henning, it was very well written so well done to you Also I was really surprised to see a piece like this, it's so very different to your usual work I actually had to wonder who painted it when I first saw it before reading anything. Fantastic amount of detail as always and it's great to see such a break from the norm to add some excitement and variation to your already awesome work.

I have to be honest here...looks fookin brilliant Henning! It's odd seeing a work by you with no person in view. But it absolutely rocks!

My ImagineFX was still in its plastic wrapper. You made me go and open it.

You should do science-fiction environments more often. It's amazing!

Genius as always Henning!

Just got the mag and read the article, priceless information!

There is always one thing I wonder about though and that's "Who holds the rights to the paintings you do for IFX?" Are you permitted to sell the stuff you do for the mag as prints on DA?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

henning In reply to DJKrueger [2008-04-09 22:12:35 +0000 UTC]

Thanks mate

Future Publishing owns the rights for the paintings done specifically for the articles (not talking about guest artist art, or points shown with examples with personal pieces). I haven't really checked if I can sell prints, as I don't really stress too much about that. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind if I asked to sell prints for personal use, as long as I would include their copyright text, though.

DJKrueger In reply to henning [2008-04-09 23:09:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i thought that was the case.

I promised myself that as soon as the Martian Pinup was available for print i would buy myself one In fact all your pin up style pieces just speak to me.... I just wish i had more time to practice so i could get even half as good as you lol!
