So you became an artist without going to an artschool? Are you attending one now? (ArtEZ?) And what did you do to make the DD magazine notice your work? So very interested.

I almost forgot: You say you found out about the Preston Blair book, but was it THIS edition:

If not, you should look at it. It will be an eyeful. =};-3

That's the one! I don't own the book you can currently buy since I don't really like the art in there- he's a great artist but not that much of a character designer. The old book really looks a whole lot better.

Actually, he's a great designer, it's just that he had to come up with very generic examples in a hurry when the first edition had the whole issue of copyright trouble. But he's the central designer for all the characters you see in the first edition.

Oh, I'll take that back then! I'm still amazed at the quality difference of the designs in the books though.

Why did Blair Prestons book have such an impact on you?

Because I never had any art lessons, and this learned me the basics of good (old) construction in drawing. It's helpful for any drawing style.

His book has been the foundation of more animators and artists than can be listed.

I do miss your ballpoint pen art! It was so neat, those old scribbles of yours inspired me to play more with crosshatching (which I don't AT ALL regret)
... but I still fail with actual ballpoint pens. That is a unique skill.

Yeahh I should do it some more. Ofcourse the only reason I used ballpoints was because I did everything during classes... now I'm far too picky on poses and such to do it without any erasing. But it'd be good practise!

It's quite interesting to see the transition from amateur to professional.
Of course the word professional is relative. One never stops learning.
Keep it up!
Well, of course you will

Interesting and inspiring to see how much you have improved in only a few years... you always had the talent, but now it's just unbeatable! Hope I will be able one day to do so myself and make a meme of my past work and see some major improvement.
