I added a more directional yellow overhead light after a suggestion by Tearup in the monthly digital art critique.The earlier version is there:
This is a weird concept. I wanted to do Power Girl in an everyday and unheroic pose, and a low-key pose from Jen of Jookpubstock caught my eye. It reminded me of manspreading on the subway and I thought it would be funny to have Power Girl obliviously dominating her space with cramped and intimidated criminals or ruffians around her. I had trouble designing the criminals, trying at first to go for a classic 50s comic book stylization (flat caps and striped shirts), but they just looked like scared elderly workmen and sailors. I ended up exaggerating the characters until they looked more like something from an underground comic.
It doesn't quite work. I concentrated on tinkering with details too much. The values turned out quite strange, because I experimented with a too dark background color. Also, as the light doesn't have s strong direction, the overall image is muddy with very glossy highlights. Live and learn. I did try to turn it into a pastels like stylistic thing.
Any comments or critiques are welcome...
