Australopithecines looked like delicate and fragile animals compared to chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are more than three times the strength of an adult human. Australopithecines are proportioned like humans. A chimp would make short work of an Australopithecine. How they coexisted with more powerful apes is a wonder.

Their social structures and feeding habits probably meant that they did not compete.

The way the Australopithecus walks upright is something they do that the apes of the present just don't do much.

It's really nice to see work like this on dA. I like the detail and shading and it looks similar to reconstructions of A. afarensis too.
