Adventure Time is by far one of the most popular Cartoon Network shows yet somehow I never watched it until summer 2019. Weird.

This show lives up to its name. In the Land of Ooo there are tons of adventure in each episode with these strange but endearing characters. The first 3 seasons are more laid back with a very little narrative but as the show goes on it gets more ambitious with bigger stories and lore to its world. This was a good new direction since even before this the world felt like it had a lot to explore. Although I am not huge on season 6. Most of the episodes are still good but then you'll have ones that are so... boring and pretentious. The second half of the season is easily the worst section of Adventure Time, it acts smarter than it really is but in reality its just confusing and stupid. Thankfully, after season 6 the show improved significantly and seems like it learned how to avoid most of the mistakes they made previously and even made good use of the errors that were made. Seasons 7-8 are the best seasons and actually amazing, they have the best storytelling and the quality remains pretty consistent compared to what came before. Season 9 was a step down, but thats mostly because it's pretty dang short and the hour long finale was a dud. The show beforehand had buildup and the finale just goes all over the place in structure and story. Had some good moments but there are way too many issues for me and I can't forgive how rushed it is.

Distant Lands update: Well after seeing that crappy finale this is sort of unexpected. I LOVE Distant Lands. All the specials in here serve a purpose, they develop the characters, have endearing storytelling, and overall just a great experience. There is one exception however, being the first one, BMO. It's not bad, but the villian is lame and the special lasts a little too long. Unlike the other specials, this one doesn't justify its extended length and would've been so much better if it was 22 mins instead, but still noting horrible, there's plenty to like in it. But the other specials are just SO much better. The stories are grand, and expands more on the show's universe. The finale here is waaay better than Come Along with Me, better story, more emotional, and that ending was just... beautiful. I'm so glad the show came back for this little miniseries, this gives us better closure than season 9 did.

Fionna and Cake update: Adventure Time is back... again? This time its on Fionna and Cake. There were a few Fionna and Cake episodes in the original series and at first it was a hilarious concept but I do think the novelty wore off after awhile. So I had low expectations, thinking this miniseries would be pretty boring especially since they weren't technically real? Weren't. Now, it is explained it does exist in the multiverse thaks to Simon. Oh yeah, this season has a big focus on Simon and that alone may be why this season is pretty GOOD! Simon is the best and most intriguing character in all of Adventure Time and yet there's still a lot to do with him. This season does give Simon justice and the story of Fionna and Cake going through their own self discovery is great. This season is far from perfect, because the pacing can be too slow and there are a couple of scenes that are necessary or uneventful. Also the animation isn't as good as in Distant Lands. I don't usually like to complain about tiny animation errors that shouldn't matter but there is an embarrassing amount I found without trying to look for it. With that being said, I still quite liked this season because when its good, its REALLY good. Simon got an ending and it was beautiful.

Overall, this show is GREAT and one of my all time favorite Cartoon Network shows. It's funny, charming, have great characters, and gave me a ton of surprises while watching this show, testing the limits of a kids cartoon. Fionna and Cake has ended but I don't believe this will be the last time we see of Adventure Time, the fun will never end.
