Description I took this photo of the Worcester State Mental Hospital sometime last year. I am using the building as reference for the mental institution in my upcoming graphic novel REPRESENTATION.

Next to Spidergates Cemetery in Leicester, I find the ruins of Worcester State Hospital to be one of the most intriguing places to go to in Worcester, Massachusetts.

I found myself overcome with a very eeirie feeling as I approached the building. Sort of that chill you get when you walk past a mausoleum in an old cemetery.

I definitely recommend you go and check the place out if you happen to be passing through Worcester at some point.

Even though the picture is really grainy, it still came out really well! I bet this place has an eerie history!

Thank you! Unfortunately, the camera I was using wasn't that great!! But it got the job done as far as getting reference material was concerned.

Thankfully, I've upgraded since that photo

It does give you a strange feeling when you're up close. Right now the teeth are out of it a little bit with all the construction going on. But the times I was able to go up there and take a few pictures up close when it was still lonely and unattended it had a really strange vibe to the place.

I suppose even moreso knowing what could have possibly gone on behind closed doors.

(the hospital, its in Hanson, not Plymouth XD)

Yeah, construction seems to irk the creepyness out.

I'd like to get some photos of the inside of both places, the hospital u took the pic of, and the one in hanson. I just find an eerie beauty in what appears to be a post-apocolyptic place.

There's a fence up now when construction isn't going on. But if you happen to be up there while they're working on the place you can always ask one of the workers if it would be okay to take pictures. They were pretty nice about it and let me go up as long as I didn't go past the fencing around the hospital building itself.

Nice. Eerie... I like

Hmmm yeah... I've heard some eerie tales of that place. I live a few hours away up in Maine... Maybe some day I'll visit... That is if it isn't demolished D:

Some of the buildings have sadly met with the wrecking ball. But I heard the clock tower building is going to be saved. And if they're going to open it as a museum like they say, it might make for an interesting tour.

Aw that sucks D: Well at least it's being saved. Museum would be cool though... But sordove dampen the fun D: There is nothing like going near an old abandoned building. Especially ones with dramatic pasts.

Yeah that's what they're planing for the Mental Hospital in my town. They're planning on saving some of the buildings but the cabins and some of the old stone buildings on the field are being destroyed.

The newer brick buildings have been renovated into offices for the state... But the original 3 stone building are staying abandoned.

What would be really neat is if they did like Alcatraz did with putting the sounds of the inmates clattering against the bars. Only this place should perhaps have the sound of the patients moaning in the background.

That would be really neat... It makes me wonder if Straight Jackets and Padded Cells were used. That'd be cool to have a padded Cell display though most likely it would've been gutted out since Asylums in America stopped using that treatment in the late 80s (correct me if i'm wrong)

But yeah if they gave it some neat-o special effects then I would totally go C:

Im determined to go there. I live pretty close to the building but everyone keeps saying "No its dangerous" or "No its off limits." Blah blah blah.

Which you know, both are proboly true but still, I wanna go.

The hospital was closed down in the early 1990's after a fire destroyed some of the wings. I believe the photo I took was of the main entrance and reception area.

Even to this day, it has a very ominous feel sitting up on a hill when you happen to be driving down the road.

It really is. It's even odder looking because it looks like the clock tower is too heavy for the building. The architecture is so unsettling.
