some good flashes right outside of the frame would do the trick. otherwise, i think i would slap that photo into photoshop and select the dogs with magic wand or smart selection or something of the like and make a layer that is just the dogs. then just go into image adjustments and tweak around a little for that layer. in image adjustments i would play with brightness, exposure, tone, etc until i get what i want. it is possible that the dogs would come out looking fake or grainy if you overdo it though. i dunno. just some things i would try. it really is a nice pic though!
