At Anime Boston last month, I got an on-the-spot commission for Samus from Metroid... The thing is, though, I'm not a huge Metroid man - the last time I played was Super Metroid on the SNES.So I don't really know the armor all that well and - what's more - she strikes me as the sort of character design like Iron Man - no definitive design, just little bits and pieces and variations of them that are consistent. (Green arm cannon, red-orange color scheme, helmut, BIG shoulders.)
Anyway, I crouched behing *gts 's table and drew up sketches based on Samus pics Googled on his laptop... After getting back, decided I kinda' wanted to tackle the bounty-hunter again for ol' times' sake. Hope ya' dig!

I've loved the series since the original game.
fun little bit of trivia: the big shoulders are a result of Metroid2 being made for the original gameboy. in order to distinguish the varia suit from Samus's original suit on the colorless gameboy, they made the Varia suit's shoulders huge, and the look stuck.

....wow matt. Your metroids...there..adorable. Thats hard for me to admit but i almost had one of those "awww" moments when i saw them..then immediately manned it up by thinking of boobs.

Thats a great style that you added to Samus. I like the way the armor is complicated and yet simple at the same time and the Metroids in the background really add a good mood to the piece.

Somehow, in your art-style, I think she looks more like a battlemech than a human in armor ; ). Nice pic.

The armor's design hasn't changed all that much, aside from that of Metroid Fusion and original armor .

yay! Samus with her suit on! since brawl everyone is drawing zero-suit as if a female character can't be popular without showing off her body! Samus kicks ass not showing off a damn thing! XD

The interpretation of this is superb, I need to raid that place wish more money next year~
But as for your interpreation, it feels fresh and not bogged down with details to appease people who'll complain if details are missing. As a Metroid fan, I am very pleased! The Metroids themselves look ripe to pop!

I think it came out pretty awesome, except the legs look a little too disconnected from the hips, the poor girl looks extremely bow legged.

I agree with your Metroid take--even though I love it, Samus armor is highly modifiable and this looks close enough! Your metroids though, without Samus there, would not read as metroids to me. There's always some sort of mysterious goo floating around inside (you've got that part), but the most typical "iconic" metroids seem to have three round "organs" in the middle of their sac-like bodies. That's the only thing I'd change (Samus' right hip is a little wonky but I think that's a style issue
BTW, I saw some of your art at a booth at Sakuracon! It's neat to see it all biggified on paper instead of the screen.

the last Metroid game you played was her best(IMO).
Try playing her newer games, no not the Prime games, but Zero mission and Fusion
