Holy crap this is cool! The lighting is perfect, the magic circle is awesome (where did you get it, by the way?) and I love the inclusion of the books.
As for criticism, I probably would have included a bit of a magic aura around the books, but that is about it.

That would probably require a little editing with Photoshop or Paint.NET.

So... I was wondering. Is there any way I could get my work advertised, or is it just a natural thing that gradually gets viewed.

I think it just kinda happens. But I've learned from experience that you're not going to get many page views unless you start posting stuff that is either controversial (like crack shipping) or wanted by some group of people. The most-viewed things in my gallery pertain to crossovers and that Button Mash model.

you're right. Anyways... I've run into another little problem. The lamps aren't working right for some reason. They are just too bright. also, I can't get the right colors. Any RGB examples you could give me, Thx.

I've had problems with lamp brightness before. I think that the Lamp control panel (which pops up as soon as you click on the lamp tool) has a brightness setting, but I could be wrong. If that doesn't work, then you can always move the lamp away from the scene.
As for the colors. there is no "right" RGB value. It's best to experiment and see which color best fits the scene.

what do you think of my latest works? something seems off about them somehow, though... Ya, they don't look too good from this distance... which might be a problem

I see the problems already. May I send the critiques in a note later? I'm very busy at the moment.

Alrighty... Thanks for the note. It helped quite a bit! I've come across a few inconveniences... Mostly It may be hard to see, but there are little grainy parts on the shadow. They weren't always there, though. this was also a problem with my Great and Powerful Sweetie. Except there were little ridges and curves EVERYWHERE! My main goal is to make pictures have this quality... or when I can only get lighting like this: I feel like I'm doing everything right, but it just doesn't have the quality. Maybe it isn't the effects... I dunno.

The "little grainy parts" are what I referred to as "ambient occlusion." This is basically a simulated shadow gradient - still a work in progress, as you can see. From my observations, the goal of Ambient Occlusion seems to be to create more realistic shadows by decreasing sharpness in proportion to the distance from the light source. The "r_projectedtexturefilter" code will control the degree of ambient occlusion. It's range goes from 0 to 1, but as the value approaches 0, the shadows will become more rigid pixelated.
On another note: The first picture you posted in reference to your quality goal is using a technique I believe I covered earlier. I can tell that this picture uses multiple lamps - one orange, one white, one blue - and positions the lamps to the left of the shot, in front of the shot, and to the right of the shot respectively.

oh... well a few hours ago (yesterday) I was looking at that picture and I thought "wow, that's really well-done" I doubt anyone would take much notice in mine. Then here you are, the AUTHOR saying that he likes my work. It meant a big deal to me... that's all.
