Description
I took this shot at Candau-ay, Dumaguete City, where the city's dumpsite is located. When I arrived at the place, this young girl collecting some scraps from the dump caught my attention so as my heart. What she's doing is not only for herself, but also helping her family to sustain their daily needs. I think she's the youngest among the scavengers who were there that time.
I hope someone will notice and do something to help this kind of scarcity.

There are so many, poor Kids in this World which grow up between garbage and trash ...
Such poverty is terrible. When one Day the Day comes, where People save Kids from such a Childhood, the World is one Step more near to be saved and blessed ...

Superb, powerful shot... What I love about this is that at first glance the small view seemed quite beautiful, which made it even more awful when I took it in properly. You've made something really artistic with such a gritty subject. Great composition and lighting, and well done on creating such an emotive piece. Congratulations on the really well-deserved DD!

The lighting creates such dramatic contrasts! I love how it reflects on her hair in such an angelic, dreamy way, in sharp contrast to her sad task.
Thank you for this photo.

I notice that the figure on teh bag is very big.. And she is struggling to get some food. The irony.
I love the shot, very well done.

Great shot! It is such a got-wrenching duality, if you stop to think about it. Stunning light, luminous beauty of it, at once hard and soft. And the flip side, if you can face it. The stunning horror of a child having to do this. And delve a layer deeper - the tacit complicity of those of us that don't have to do it. Every picture like this should be a wake up call. Thanks for posting this.

To this moment i disliked all the rich and consuming people who are throwing away fully functional things... But now Im happy that they do so, because they dont give crap about these people in need, so they can get at least their stuff... But of course theres a lot more better ways how to do it...

This is a beautiful photo of such a sad fact of life. My mum's family is from Cebu and I'm always amazed at the difference in way of life between them and me.
To go into town from my uncle's house we would always have to pass over a bridge with a small, dirty river running underneath. Also under the bridge were many families living in small huts with their pigs and goats. Seeing the small children playing in the water always made me so sad.
Thank you for sharing such a special photo

Even at the first split second when i saw this photo as a thumbnail i felt there was a story behind it.
Once i clicked and full viewed it i got the chills.
The elements combining the photo, the sea of trash, the silhuette of the girl and that bag with the ironically smiling cook make this image complete.
And the description is..well,heartbreaking.
