excellent action shot. theme and mood are very well expressed.
about the background, yeah it's hard when trying to capture action to remember to control the backround. usually have to be prepared to do so. aside from using a wider aperture you could also move further toward the subject, or further away and use a longer focal length. it's tough.
important thing imho is you got the emotion perfectly.

Try using larger aperture to blur out the background. Its too distracting in my opinion.

Was this shot with Auto exposure mode? If so, try shooting with aperture priority mode.
