this is such a personal piece. I lived in manila for a few years and now remember hearing when a huge mound collapsed onto loads of people. I once stayed with the family of a friend who lived on the street, they were the most welcoming people I ever met. Every time I met them after that, I felt that I was selfish and unnecesarily un-equal. You displayed the inequality so well here

ang lungkot... brings me back to the time we went places like that for school... living with them for a day taught me how lucky I am to have a roof on my head, food on hand 24/7, and good clothes to wear..

it's so forlorn it hurts... makes it look like she's wondering how she's gonna feed her siblings and parents at home when the dogs behind her are picking up everything there is to collect for home.. a strong punch to the gut in this piece! marvellous!
