Description
This was taken when we were vending at Up Your Alley (also known as Dore Alley), a leather/fetish street fair in San Francisco. Kat was helping us out as a boothie, wearing an outfit I had recently completed for her.Top: The halter top is made with 3/8", 16 gauge bright aluminum, in a European 6-in-1 for the cups and a 4-in-1 for the body. The edging is in black annodized aluminum, in 3/8", 5/16" and 1/4" rings, all 16 gauge, using a variant of Byzee Bees. It laces up the back with a piece of leather thong.
Bottom: The bottom is made almost entirely with 1/4", 18 gauge rings. The front is stainless steel in a European 6-in-1, edged in annodized aluminum half persian, merging into full persian for the chains. I say almost because it also has a few rubber rings inserted to add stretch and make it fit better.
To answer the most common questions ahead of time:
Yes, the bottom has a chain up the back, and no, it was not uncomfortable, according to Kat.
Yes, the bottom is lined. Kat stitched in a satin lining herself.
No, the top is not lined. The weave is dense enough to be nearly opaque, and according to Kat it didn't pinch at all.

It turned out to not be the best event at which to have a scantily clad woman. Not that anybody complained, but a scantily clad man would have gotten a lot more attention.

Well, that's a rather complicated question.
The top actually started as a project for somebody else in early '06. I lost contact with her, however, so the project sat untouched for a while, until I met Kat like 6 months latter. She was interested in a similar top, so I picked the project back up, and finished it a couple months latter. So you could put it at probably like 9 months to a year from start to finish. As far as actual hours, it would be almost impossible to say with any certainty, since it was spread out over such a large expanse of time. There were a LOT of fittings and minor adjustments to be done after it was mostly "finished" which added a lot to the construction time.
As to the bottom, I made that as a companion piece to the top maybe 6 months afterwards. Took about a week from when I started it to when I finished, and I'd estimate 6-7 hours of labor, not counting fittings and adjustments, which took an additional couple weeks and more hours then then it had taken to just construct it. It was surprisingly actually more complicated to get it to fit just right then the top was, and when that photo was taken I still hadn't perfected it.

Where does one look to find supply's and materials for things?

I get virtually all my tools and materials from The Ring Lord ([link] ).
For basic things like spools of wire or simple pliers, you may be able to find local sources that are cheaper, simply by virtue of not having to pay shipping from Canada. However, they have a lot of things which are almost impossible to find elsewhere, like the massive selection of anodized aluminum rings, and the scales. And as long as you're ordering those types supplies with only The Ring Lord can really supply, you might as well grab the more basic materials from them to combine shipping.
Plus, they're just a great company. They're courteous, helpful, professional and very communicative, and I've had nothing but positive experiences with them.

I might suggest you also check out Maille Artisans in that case ([link] ). They're the largest repository of information about chainmail on the 'net, including a massive database of weaves, a TON of tutorials, and a really good forum.
The forum on The Ring Lord is a bit more active, but in my experience, you'll usually get better answers to your questions from Maille Artisans. The people there tend to be a lot more helpful. At a guess, I'd say it's because Maille Artisans is populated more by hobbyists, and The Ring Lord more by professionals.

Thanks. I'm quite fond of the edging. Nearly every top I've made has used it. I especially love how the two edgings can merge seamlessly into the straps at the corners of the cups.

It's $400 for the halter and $200 for the g-string. Note that the top is only $300 if you just want a bikini top rather then a whole shirt.

I generally ship by USPS, since it's cheaper for domestic shipping. If you're outside the US, I can use UPS or FedEx instead. Unfortunately, I don't have the item's weight on hand, since the piece is in the possession of Kat, the girl in the picture. Without the weight, or the destination zip code, I can't really get a quote on the price. To be honest, I've never had to mail a piece this large before.
