"_____, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?" Prussia bursted in. You looked up to see him. He nervously checked you up and down if you got hurt. Looking at your fists, "What happened? You scraped your fists and you came to the hospital? You could just come to us! What were you thinking?"
Before you could explain, Italy and Romano came in. Italy tackled you, flinching, you looked to see him crying for what seemed like a few hours. His eyes were red and blood-shot. He cried loudly in your shoulder.
"Tell me what happened." Prussia demanded. You really thought Prussia had actually took Germany's place, since he had gotten very serious over the past years. You couldn't blame him though.
"...I-I got in a fist fight." You didn't know how to word it. "And someone got shot because of me." Prussia stared at you in disbelief.
"You got someone shot?"
"He.. saved me though."
After a few minutes of silence, Prussia poked his head out the door, calling a doctor in. "Excuse me, I want to see the patient." The doctor got in, irritably. He held a clipboard with the surgery listings.
"Sir, I'm afraid I can't now. He's currently in surgery. We're trying to get the bullet out of his system. The surgery can't be disturbed. You'll have to wait overnight." He left quickly, leaving Prussia a bit angered.
"....Fine." Slamming the door, Prussia slumped onto the chair.
"Why do you want to see him so desperately?" you asked.
"He saved your life.. I have to thank him, don't I? You're like a sister to me.." You decided to stay silent for now. "We're staying overnight. The hospital offered us a few rooms. We should get your fists tended now." Prussia trudged out of the room, the Italian brothers reluctantly followed behind.
Peering at your knuckles, they were stained with blood and cut up. It seemed it was about to get infected soon. You just felt the stinging tinge of pain. Rubbing the blood onto your military shorts and walked out of the office.
---
You slumped in your bed. This was just perfect..
You couldn't go outside. Prussia had requested guards to be outside your doors all-night. That means you couldn't step an inch in the halls without them pointing their tasers at you. You had tried to go out to a vending machine you saw earlier. But, they just threw you back into the room.
You took out your phone and went to see the status of Germany. You never got updated properly. Prussia had tried reassuring you nothing had happened and everything in Germany was fine.
Lies.
Your eyes widened as you saw protests and headlines of Germany's taxes were overdue. How could Prussia keep all these news away from you?
When you were living in a small town in Germany, you never paid attention to the news for 20 years. Quite the record, isn't it? Feeling furious, you dialed Prussia's number, not caring what time it was, or if he would get mad at you.
"...Hello, frau?"
"Hello, Prussia..." you started coldly. "How could you not tell me the truth on how Deutschland's economy was? You couldn't keep it away from me forever. You said it was fine.."
"...I didn't want to.. The countries had been trying to search for you. I never knew you were actually hiding in that small town. We were so glad that we found you again.." Prussia let out a loud sigh, "Listen, its 3 in the morning, frau. Get to sleep. I'll talk about this later. I'm sorry. Gute Nacht." The line went dead as he hung up. Cursing under your breathe, you placed your phone onto the stand next to your bed. Slipping into the blankets, you immediately fell asleep.
---
You stared into his cold eyes. He chuckled as he gently placed the treaty onto the desk. Reverting your eyes to it, you saw the fancy scribbles of what he seemed to redeem as legible handwriting. You scanned your eyes over each word, narrowing your eyes more by each second. Each paragraph seemed to wanted to sweeten this whole thing up. But, you knew there would be something hidden behind them. You frowned.
'The country of _____ will contribute to the war of the demolition of Deutschland.'
Slamming your hand onto the treaty, you growled. "What the hell is the meaning of this? You want me to destroy Germany?"
He sighed, apparently he hoped you didn't want to see that one part. "Yes my dear, _____. Together, we could turn the tables of the world. Germany and the other nations are on the top. While we are on the bottom. Haven't you ever reconsidered this? The power, the money, and the countries falling to their knees?"
"No, I never wanted to be on the top. We all have our places. In advance, I don't want to-"
"I don't care. Your country has the military power, while mine has the brains and tactics. We'll be able-"
"Are you calling my people idiots? Like yours have any damn logic."
"How dare you. You should be treating me with respect. All of the countries should bow to me. But, their arrogance blocks out my true power." He growled. You stood up from the chair. You threw down the pen.
"You're wasting my time. Nothing would make me wage a war with Germany. Know your own place in this world." You started toward the door.
"______, I'm not giving you an option. I'll force you to help me destroy the others if I need to. Last chance."
Turning your head, your eyes glared at him, showing hostility. "Threats never faze me. And No. I'll never have an alliance with you. Now leave me alone." Turning the doorknob, you heard him crumbling paper. Probably the treaty. What a waste of paper, you thought.
"Fine then... Personification of _____, I declare war on you."
You growled at his determination. Slamming the door, you narrowed your eyes at the thought of war. How you hated war.
---
Opening your eyes, you stared at the ceiling. Groaning, you rolled to your side, looking at the clock.
5:19 A.M.
You tried going back to sleep, but you couldn't. Why were these dreams always come back to haunt you? This time, it was when you refused to sign the alliance treaty with him. The cause of the war, which made your country, _____, fall into depression for a few years. Your population decreased dramatically. The government was almost overthrown by the protests. And worse of all, people thought you died. Yes, you had stopped aging and stayed at the age of what seemed like 20.
You felt a tinge of anger rush into you. He had the upper hand. He blackmailed the other countries to hold a war against you. The Axis was with you, which you appreciate a lot. Germany had stood up for you, so had Japan and Italy. Even Romano. But, you all knew you were at a huge disadvantage. Your camps were bombed everyday, so were your capital and cities.
At one point, you tried to convince your allies to not help you. You didn't want them to get raided every so often. You didn't want to drag them in the mess. But, of course, they never did.
How you hated war. Looking out the window, you were surprised to see the sun rising. The clock showed, 6:45 A.M. Your thoughts had actually distracted you for quite a while. Getting dressed into your military uniform, you grabbed your phone and headed out.
Opening the doors, you had forgot about the guards outside. They stared at you intensely.
"Miss _____. We have to request permission for you to go out. Please wait right there, I'll notify Prussia." After a few minutes of waiting, you saw Prussia stumble out of his room, half-dressed. His shirt was unbuttoned and he was trying to put on his belt. You could have swore you caught a glance of his yellow chick-covered boxers.
"_____! I told you to stay put in the room until I get out! That's not awesome!" Gilbert whined.
"I want to see the patient. Remember?"
"Yeah. I know. Since you woke me up already, I guess we could check on him." Prussia said as he straightened his tie. You heard Italy and Romano come out of the room. They were already dressed properly.
"Are we going to see that damn guy or not?" Romano complained. You nodded as they tagged along with you. Asking the operator at the front desk for the directions to the patient, she gave permission and directions. Following it, you stopped at a plain door. You took in a deep breathe and opened the door.
---
You saw him sleeping, quietly. The monitors were all hooked up next to him. You felt a small push behind you. Walking out of the doorway, you allowed the other countries to come in and see him. Holding your breathe, you watched Prussia's reaction. His face turned paler than usual as he looked at him.
"W-west?.." His face were filled with recognition and surprise. "...It.. It can't be.." He couldn't speak for a few minutes. Italy and Romano from behind said him and their faces dropped. Italy's eyes started tearing up. Romano stared at him in amazement.
'I know its not him. Its just a stranger.. I don't know him. It can't be him.. Its just a coincidence.. Yeah, a coincidence..' you thought madly to yourself, not believing the fact that it was him. He couldn't just have been there all the time without you noticing. It couldn't be Germany..
Prussia turned to you, his eyes with mixed emotions. You thought you saw disbelief, sadness, excitement, and surprise all filled in. "______.. Its him.. Why aren't you.. What's wrong with you?"
Your eyes pricked a bit, "It can't be him! HE DOESN'T RECOGNIZE ME. It's not him.." You felt water run down your cheek, "It's not him!"
"DOITSU!" Italy was trembling as he cried. He jumped onto the bed, hugging him tightly. His eyes flashed open as he felt the unknown man hug him tightly. He yelped loudly in pain. "G-germany! You're alive! I missed you so much.." Prussia's eyes widened as he saw Italy. He quickly went over and pulled him off.
Romano quickly restrained his brother. Prussia went over and looked at him. "W-west?"
The blue eyes shot up, looking at Prussia. "N-nein. I'm not West." Prussia's eyes widened.
"You don't recognize me? Your bruder?"
He shook his head. Flinching, he looked at his arm, wrapped with bandages and hooked up to the monitors. Seeing the red eyes of Prussia looking a bit glossy, "I-I'm sorry! I'm sorry, I don't know you.."
Prussia didn't respond. His face was pale. His mouth twitched, not knowing what to say. He went over to you, "_____! This is Germany! I know it! What's wrong with him? What did you do!" You shook your head, "ITS HIM. Its Ludwig Beilschimdt! My brother! Its Germany.."
You tried not to believe it, but in your heart, you knew it. "But.. it.. he's.. It's Germany.. Its him.. He's right there.." You couldn't register it in your mind. He was right there all along?
".. Don't worry, its probably from the injury..The doctors will help him.. Don't worry, _____.." He said. Your eyes fell upon the floor, not knowing what to do. Finally getting up, you walked over to Germany. He watched you.
"Hi. I know this is kind of.. early.. But, could you tell me about your past?"
"I don't think I can recall things more than 20 years ago."
Sighing, you looked at him, trying to stop the tears, "Do you have anything from your past?" You longed to see if this was Germany or not. His eyes fell upon his coat, that was hung onto a chair nearby. You went over and reached into one of the pockets, taking out an old folded paper. "T-this?" He nodded.
"I don't understand it.. I just had it with me when I woke up." You opened it up, you recognized Germany's handwriting.
If you reach this letter, I thank you for reading this. I will be probably dead or too injured for a while. I want you to please send this letter to the country of ______, for a person named [your full name].
I'm in the outskirts of Germany, trying to protect the small towns nearby from the raids. I lost 3/5 of my men here. I know the war is coming to an end soon. Don't be too hard on yourself. We were overpowered from the start to the end. We fought bravely and stood up for our countries. But, sometimes, I want you to tell her I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I didn't fight my hardest, and lost. I assure you that we'll be fine. Goodbye for now.
I miss you,
Ludwig Beilschimdt
Some parts were a bit drenched with dried blood. You couldn't read it very well. You tried to remain emotionless from the letter, but you felt somewhat overjoyed and grim at the same time. Resisting the urge to throw your arms around him and giving him a hug that might cause pain to him. Looking up, you saw him watching you uneasily.
"I-I had it in my uniform.. I'm not sure who wrote it.. I just woke up in a town, being tended from the wounds.."
You folded the letter uneasily. "Do you remember anything else?"
"..N-nein. I really don't remember much. I can tell you I was in the war though. I think I was trying to give this letter to _____.. I'm not sure who wrote it, but I'm guessing I was helping this man called Ludwig give this letter to her.."
Your eyes closed. He didn't remember anything? He wrote this letter though.. You clutched the letter.
"Do you remember anyone else?" His eyes studied you.
"Wait.. You are.. _____." Your eyes shot back open. He remembered your name though? His eyes looked at you in recognition. "I'm sorry. It just came up in my head.."
"..No, no. You're right. I'm _____." You turned your back to see Prussia, Italy, and Romano gape at you. You could see Prussia trying to hold back his sorrow. You felt bad too. He couldn't remember his own brother or his best friend. "..I should leave you for now.. Your checkup should be scheduled soon. Don't worry, we'll come back to visit." You tried to walk out, but it seemed like half of your body longed to stay by his side. After seeing Italy give Germany one last hug, he sobbed as he left the room with Romano trying to comfort him.
On your way out, you heard Prussia talking with him.
"Hey.. I just want to thank you for saving _____." After hearing some shuffling, you saw Prussia walk out and close the door. He punched the wall, gingerly.
"We found him. After so many years, we found him." You couldn't believe it.
"_____.. He doesn't remember me.." He sighed. "..But, he remembers your name.." You looked at him, not knowing what to say. "That means there's hope that he could get his memory back." His eyes glinted a tiny bit as he prepped up.
Looking at him with a startled face, but you gained your posture back quickly. Walking out of the halls, you muttered quietly.
"Yeah.. There's hope."
