Description What would you accomplish if you knew, down to the deepest darkest depths of your existence, you could not fail?

What indeed, sends one down the hardest of paths, to rip away what has been taught, the negative and what perceptions of truth you may believe, to learn what your mind can truly do?

Let us start, not by telling what practitioners are, but what they are not.

They are NOT religious. Possibly agnostic, at most, deists. They meditate, and occasionally call on their elders for help and strength. But they do not worship them, and occasionally argue with their elders.

They are not immortal. They live their mortal lives, occasionally the practice allows them some longevity. They can be killed, even as a few become extremely difficult to destroy.

They can't fly. Levitate, yes. No walking on water or hot lava. but they can do other things to circumvent such obstacles. Unless they have gills, they can't breathe water. Because of this, practitioners normally stay away bodies of water larger than a wash tub or shower.

They cannot control a beings will. Read thoughts, yes. This allows them to negotiate between feuding or disagreeing parties. But melting minds, no.

They do not have super strength, although manipulating E allows them to work metal or wood. Even Casey, with his metal boned legs and right arm, has human tissue surrounding them. He is no stronger than a typical Terran.

The don't have laser swords, magic wands, or do incantations. While they practice a form of Tai-Chi, most are not self-defense experts. Casey rarely projects with his hands, lest he be mistaken for a magician. But sometimes, you need a little drama, so jazz hands it is!

Practitioners could be called parapsychic, a science that many races, including Terra, do not recognize as being real!

That being said, here's what practitioners do.

First, practitioners take an oath. A blood oath.

The promise to use the powers they achieve for peaceful purposes,
to respect life and living organisms, eating only what they need and blessing what they take.

They, under the strongest punishment, promise to never murder, conversely,

They swear to seek justice for the weak and innocent, and to confront evil and defeat it by all means necessary.

To honor truth, and to always speak it, even at the cost of their life.

Finally, to freely sacrifice their life to defend all those placed in their care.

Then they go into the galaxy to practice, to never stop learning. Some reach a certain point, or specialization, like the healers and surgeons of the Ma-arogg, and stop.

James Casey Gage when he was known as Cowboy, the proverbial man without a past was...an exemplary practitioner. He never stopped learning or practicing. Eventually he became so powerful his mentors began to have concerns. Then he began asking questions to those above him, and they had to tell him the truth. And that changed his how he looked at his practice, and his oath.

Right now, Cowboy/Casey is exercising, something most practitioners didn't do a lot of.
But he's been placed in an unusual situation, one of constant dangers and threats to those placed in his care. His diligent practice with the E, or essence of the universe increases his abilities to use it. As stated earlier, he's exceptionally good at it!

Right now, he's taking the very dust and microscopic particles throughout the hanger deck of Moya and forming shapes, some basic, some complex. He can leave them as dust to fall back to the ground or air or harden them and use them as tools...or weapons. He also lifts everything else close by, shipping crates, metal forms, space vessels.... yes, even certain vessels. He's on Moya and he's already "set a screen" meaning he has placed a powerful defensive screen around the entire ship that he maintains 24/7! As you can see, he's sweating from the energy drain. His caloric drain is double that of a Profession athlete in the heat of a game, so he must eat and drink constantly.

Augments installed by the Ma-arogg who saved his life, rejuvenate the cells of his heart and brain. Knowing this, he takes riskier chances.

There's more, but I've typed enough for now. Thanks for reading.

Feel free to ask questions about him or the others.
