I'm fairly new to the Shantae series, but I've had fun with what I've played so far! They seem a very beloved game series by many!

I haven't played the others, but I can say I enjoyed myself with Half Genie Hero. I'd say you'd have something to look forward to getting around to playing it. I got the impression while playing it that there were a fair few in jokes that fans of the series who have played previous games would get and smile at! Aye, I like playing all the games in a franchise's collection too. Something so satisfying about finishing 'em off and seeing how they've evolved through the years and so on.

Oh you haven't played the other ones? Well it's good to know you enjoyed Half Genie Hero. The first one ended up becoming super rare so a digital copy is better and you'll want that because the First Shantae is not a forgiving game. Too many commands and too few buttons with environments crawling with constantly spawning enemies. It's harsh but it's still a good game. 
The second one is the opposite. The controls are consolidated and the enemies pose no challenge. The entire game comes off as a bit short overall. That's the most disappointing one. 
Third one is good. I image the forth game is just the third game on steroids. The opponents are balanced the abilities aren't overpowering, you get a lot of abilities and the game isn't short. 

Third game has an entire level dedicated to fan service which is very egregious and mostly a waste of time although it would have been worth it had Bolo showed up at that particular moment.
