Description
Here is the fourth compilation of all the artists (including myself), taking part in the fourth month of 's Monster Countdown to Halloween , as we all take a crack at redesigning Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.'s interpretation of Mr. Hyde is a nasty internet troll, while his counterpart, Dr .Jekyll, is a creative internet artist. Both of whom are pure bred Americans.
For my design, like with the Mummy, I wanted to do something different. First off, both Jekyll and Hyde are female, and I went with a sort of Steampunk approach, as opposed to traditional Victorian. Dr. Harriet Jekyll is a brilliant yet shy and timid female scientist who believes that within every good man or woman is an inner darkness linking us to our animal ancestors. So in her laboratory, she concocts a potion to rid herself of the beast within her own soul, only for something to go terribly wrong. Rather than destroying the hidden darkness, the potion brings it to the surface, twisting Harriet's body into that of a huge, busty cackling hyena! This new entity, who names herself Evelyn Hyde, is Jekyll's complete polar opposite. Aside from not being human, Hyde refuses to acknowledge any of society's laws or niceties, living in pure anarchy and chaos. And where Jekyll is small, shy, timid and weak, Hyde is strong, seductive, flirtatious, brazen...and murderous! The reason I made Hyde a hyena is because when I was a little kid, when I saw the Pagemaster for the first time, Hyde's design kinda reminded me of the hyenas from The Lion King for some reason.
's idea was a quick one. Jekyll is an amicable and social gentleman with a welcoming heart and loyalty to the cause of helping others. This makes him a likable fellow who can help you. Unfortunately, there is a dangerous side to him as well. This is thoroughly represented in his alter ego; Hendel. Here, he transforms into something that is completely different from his Jekyll form: a crazy, prank loving and party crazy beast with a body that mostly consists of a Gigantopethicus, a species of extinct ape from prehistoric times, and what King Louie from the 2016 "Jungle Book" is portrayed as. However, this body also has the body functions of some other prehistoric animals, with the tail of a Doedicurus, the tusks of a Deinotherium, and the feet of an Andrewsarchus. This represents his mental instability and his dangerous antics for his so-called pranks. You can actually see him holding an angry scorpion in his fingers. Whatever you do, be careful not to make him transform into this crazy form. You'll regret making it happen.
's interpretation is a lot more unique than past redesigns, as his Mr. Hyde is an anthropomorphic lion!
's interpretation draws inspiration from the character's appearances in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie, Van Helsing, and The Pagemaster.
always liked picturing Hyde as a kind of "Ape-Man" or even a caveman, heck even in the original novel by Robert Louise Stevenson described him as looking "Troglodytic" so facial and posture wise that's usually what I go with; appropriate for the Victorian times when Evolution was still debatable and even controversial, and sometimes the image of a human that devolved to a primitive, animalistic state was sometimes seen as sinful, even regular primates to public then were seen as sinful animals, which in itself wasn't far off from lycanthropy and werewolves. He wanted to try and make him less ape-like in appearance (at least in anatomy from the neck down) since I already submitted my Rule 63 take on these two characters, Hyde herself being a hyena; and even KingLeoLionhart submitted a piece where his Hyde was a man-eating lion, so I knew there'd be one too many animal-looking Hydes, even if his wouldn't look completely like one titular species, never the less he did try to make look cartoonishly evil in some way, so that's where his talent of drawing Orcs based on J.R.R. Tolkien's work came into play, as this sort of twisted elf-like character hence the pointy ears (also seen as some sort of devilry) and of course there are comic book villains like the Joker or the Green Goblin, who have their own wicked smiles and devious personalities.
chose to depict Edward Hyde in his truest sense; as a manifestation of the deepest, most primal part of the human psyche.
- Explanation coming soon...
- Coming soon...
Never actually watched any Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde movie, because he's not fan of horror. But he does like Halloween and does some spooky art. Anyway, Dr. Jekyll drinks some Hyde Formula and transform into a Goblin like Hyde.
- Coming Soon...
- Decided to make a A modernized, gender-bent version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, or in this case 'Mz Hyde'. Much like the original book, Dr. Jekyll is on the surface an accomplished chemist and upstanding figure in the community, but underneath she harbors urges to break away from it all and indulge in base urges. Which in this case appear to be senseless violence and destruction. So she creates 'Mz Hyde', a punk and criminal who tears up property and beats the tar out of people for sick kicks.
EDIT: Added Ro-thegoat to the compilation and updated my designs of Jekyll and Hyde.

I think Troy's depiction of Hyde is closer to how he was described in the book. In the book, Hyde was actually smaller than Jekyll.

TroytheDinosaur design look's more reasonable and more traditional to the book so I give that one a win.
Reason is because everyone seem's to be focusing on the Doctor transforming into the giant "Monster" aspect but really it's the whole split personality of "Good and Evil" thing that really hit it.
