Description
A new reference sheet of another new Maho Shoujo FC of mine. This one is for "Haruka Conley," another neat Maho Shoujo, whom I am also going to now be adding to my fan-manga series, Maho Shoujo Rika Magika. I styled it in the same manner as similar reference sheets I've seen for this. This should give you a good idea on how Haruka is supposed to look.Man, she took me quite a while to draw. She was even harder for me to draw than Jo was, but I like how she looks in the end. She's not as cutesy and cuddly as Rika Isoni and Jo Ayara are, but she is still pretty cute, and looks rather unique and cool. Well here's the description on her. Take time to read the description if you want to know about her more.
Haruka Conley is a 15-year old girl and somewhat of a newer Maho Shoujo to the team, but still a valuable asset to the Maho Shoujos. She is a very hard-working girl and is very down-to-earth in her personality, and has a good familiy too. She feels very obligated to try and take down the Witches, since she feels that she owes Kyubey quite a bit. She is a rather friendly person most of the time. However, whenever she is in battle and facing Witches, she tries to act very "tough and hardcore." She isn't truly that harsh though, and merely acts that way when involved in battle so that she does not appear weak to others. Haruka also really dislikes situations where she feels practically helpless, and tries her best to avoid such instances when she can.
Long before the initial events of the series, Haruka Conley was caught in a horrific car accident, which although she survived, the accident permanently injured her spine and made her unable to walk. She had to spend a lot of time at a hospital afterwards, and it looked like she would never walk again, and would have to use a wheelchair for the rest of her life. This was so devastating for poor Haruka, to not be able to walk again.
When Kyubey appeared, Haruka wished to have her spine healed and be able to walk again. Also Jo Ayara sort of persuaded her to do this, but not really urging her or anything, but Jo did have a bit of a part in this. After Haruka gained ability to walk back and became a Maho Shoujo with special powers too, this was such a great thing for Haruka, and she loved it so much. She rejoices in being able to walk again and spends a lot of time enjoying her freedom of walking once more. She then joined up with the other Maho Shoujos to fulfill their duties of destroying the Witches.
Also, despite how extremely cute and cuddly and snuggly and lovable she is, Haruka dislikes being called cute, finding it to be embarrassing, and she really does not like being cuddled and snuggled.
Like most of the Maho Shoujos, her "casual outfit" is a cute schoolgirl uniform. When Haruka is in her "Powered up" form, she wears an outfit that looks like an orange, cute military uniform with a Titovka hat, long trousers, and sandal-like shoes. Her Soul Gem in its portable form attaches onto her foot, on one of the bare spots of her shoes.
Also over the course of the series, Haruka starts having these weird, trippy, nightmare-like Visions at times. At first she thinks of them as merely just bad nightmares, but she keeps on having them, and soon she tries to find out what they mean. Soon she realizes that these visions are foreshadowing a rather grim future for herself and for some of her friends too, and also are telling her about her eventual horrible fate that now shall come upon her, since she made a contract with Kyubey. Things get even worse for her when she finally deciphers what her visions mean.
Also worth noting is that Haruka's family owns a time-share vacation home in the woods. Haruka loves to spend time at this vacation home with her friends, usually on weekends during the days when it is available, and many times she has sleepovers and parties there. Ever since gaining back her ability to walk, Haruka goes there with her friends on any opportunity she can, and she enjoys it so much.

Hope she doesn't have to always raise her hair up like that. Dang about her spine getting hurt like that. Wouldn't that really kill someone? Love how she wouldn't be so lonely like Mami, though would like to know she wouldn't be convinced by Kyubey to take it so seriously.

Well it depends on the type of Spinal Injury and what nerves it. Yes, it can kill someone, but not always. There have been times when a person who suffers a less-severe spinal injury merely loses their ability to use their legs. Haruka's spinal injury was a less-severe one, but still bad enough to make her lose her ability to walk. There are other spinal injuries that can also make you lose things such as your ability to use your arms and such. It all depends on what part of the spine is crippled, and what nerves and nerve roots are damaged from it. In fact, I actually once knew a friend who suffered an injury like that, and had to use a wheelchair too.
And no, she doesn't always have to raise her hair up like that, I just added that pic so you can see what her eyes look like. She can actually see quite well despite having her hair cover her eyes. I've seen lots of characters in other series who use this style see well. Dunno how it works, but then again, the series isn't very realistic anyways. I could perhaps think of it as maybe her hair is just less thick there and she sort of sees through it that way.
Sometimes she does raise her hair up, but not very often, and mostly just to show off a little. I thought that this "hair bangs hiding the eyes" hairstyle was cute looking, and none of the other girls have that style, so its more unique. I suppose you've seen a few other characters who have this hairstyle too, right?
And about taking it more seriously. Well she really think that she owes Kyubey a lot for restoring her ability to walk, and thinks that she's kind of in debt to him. That's the reason why she's doing it, but unlike Jo, she doesn't have as much fun and enjoyment from the adventure and thrills and such. She isn't the type of person to enjoy that sort of stuff as much, but she does it anyways because she feels that its an obligation.
And as for being with Jo. She's sort of used to Jo's "body disassembly" skill, but not completely, and she wouldn't want to head-cuddle her at all. She usually has her Cohorts carry Jo's parts, but finds holding them herself to be a bit "awkward." Jo sort of tells Haruka that the Soul Gem is sort of a jewel that grants the bearer Semi-Immortality and Maho Shoujo powers, but she does not tell her the reason for the Semi-Immortality is because their souls are now contained inside them, for she feels that Haruka might not be able to handle the truth. Haruka later starts to get suspicious about this though.
Also, Haruka would not want to split herself into pieces like Jo does, even though she technically could. For Haruka, having that happen to her would make her feel really uncomfortable and she wouldn't like it. She's okay with others who have this sort of thing doing it to themselves, but she wouldn't want to do it to her own self. Jo is respectful of this though, and understands why.

And yeah, she's quite gorgeous. That hairstyle of the bangs hiding her eyes hasn't been done in Maho Shoujo Madoka Magika yet, but it can look very cute when done right, so I chose that for her. Though personally, Rika and Jo look way cuter than her to me, but Haruka's still very cute, just not as much.
And yeah, she has a very tragic backstory, but she's supposed to be sort of a tragic character. And her weird visions play a part in my series too.

You're welcome, Haruka hair style kinda remind me of a computer wiz girl from a manga series I read a while ago called Rival school, and the design is really cute, so I really like it. She look like a lovely addition to the group who adds the needed fire power.

Oh really? Show me this character, I am interested in seeing what she looks like. And you're right about her firepower being helpful, but keep in mind that there are other gunslingers in the series already, such as Mami and Homura. Her Cohorts are the main good thing about her though, and they can be helpful to both herself and her friends too. Haruka's more of the one who never rushes in, but she takes time to plan her attacks and uses more tactics and strategy while fighting, which makes up for how she's weaker than some of the other Maho Shoujos.
And by the way, in case you were interested Waimbert, technically Haruka could also separate herself into pieces like Jo does, because like the others, she has a Soul Gem keeping her alive and it makes her Semi-Immortal. However, she would not want to do it at all, even though she technically could. For Haruka, having that happen to her would make her feel really uncomfortable and she wouldn't like it very much. And even if Haruka wanted too, she didn't install brackets into her Semi-Immortal self to make them more loose like Jo did, so she'd have to cut herself up every time she wanted too, because the Soul Gem would keep healing away it each time she reattaches them (Jo's brackets keep them physically separated since it can heal away the cuts with a large metal thing blocking it like that), and that would be very inconvenient. She's okay with others who have this sort of ability doing it to themselves, but she wouldn't want to do it to her own self, and just would totally not enjoy being disassembled. Jo is respectful of this though, and understands why.
Haruka uses the Soul Gem Semi-Immortality more like the original characters did. She uses it to take a beating but keep on going, as long as her gem stays intact. Also, she likes about it the fact that now, she never has to worry about losing her ability to walk ever again, thanks to the Soul Gem.

Opps, once again I am confusing another anime series with popular game series by capcom called Rival school. The character Midori Misato, is acually from Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School, its a series about highschool student fighting each other much like the popular Rival School video games. Midori Misato have a similar design to Haruka so here is a pic of her. Sorry for getting some of my facts mix up.

Wow, she's rather cute too. Another great example of a cute way of wearing your bangs over your eyes. Although it has to be done right, or it could end up making them look more emo than cute. But when done in a more cute look and not so emo look, it is very adorable and lovable.
Here's some other characters in anime series, who also use that style and look very adorable with it. I bet you'll agree they're almost as cute too.
