Description
A new reference sheet of another new Maho Shoujo FC of mine. This one is for "Haruka Conley," another neat Maho Shoujo, whom I am also going to now be adding to my fan-manga series, Maho Shoujo Rika Magika. I styled it in the same manner as similar reference sheets I've seen for this. This should give you a good idea on how Haruka is supposed to look.Man, she took me quite a while to draw. She was even harder for me to draw than Jo was, but I like how she looks in the end. She's not as cutesy and cuddly as Rika Isoni and Jo Ayara are, but she is still pretty cute, and looks rather unique and cool. Well here's the description on her. Take time to read the description if you want to know about her more.
Haruka Conley is a 15-year old girl and somewhat of a newer Maho Shoujo to the team, but still a valuable asset to the Maho Shoujos. She is a very hard-working girl and is very down-to-earth in her personality, and has a good familiy too. She feels very obligated to try and take down the Witches, since she feels that she owes Kyubey quite a bit. She is a rather friendly person most of the time. However, whenever she is in battle and facing Witches, she tries to act very "tough and hardcore." She isn't truly that harsh though, and merely acts that way when involved in battle so that she does not appear weak to others. Haruka also really dislikes situations where she feels practically helpless, and tries her best to avoid such instances when she can.
Long before the initial events of the series, Haruka Conley was caught in a horrific car accident, which although she survived, the accident permanently injured her spine and made her unable to walk. She had to spend a lot of time at a hospital afterwards, and it looked like she would never walk again, and would have to use a wheelchair for the rest of her life. This was so devastating for poor Haruka, to not be able to walk again.
When Kyubey appeared, Haruka wished to have her spine healed and be able to walk again. Also Jo Ayara sort of persuaded her to do this, but not really urging her or anything, but Jo did have a bit of a part in this. After Haruka gained ability to walk back and became a Maho Shoujo with special powers too, this was such a great thing for Haruka, and she loved it so much. She rejoices in being able to walk again and spends a lot of time enjoying her freedom of walking once more. She then joined up with the other Maho Shoujos to fulfill their duties of destroying the Witches.
Also, despite how extremely cute and cuddly and snuggly and lovable she is, Haruka dislikes being called cute, finding it to be embarrassing, and she really does not like being cuddled and snuggled.
Like most of the Maho Shoujos, her "casual outfit" is a cute schoolgirl uniform. When Haruka is in her "Powered up" form, she wears an outfit that looks like an orange, cute military uniform with a Titovka hat, long trousers, and sandal-like shoes. Her Soul Gem in its portable form attaches onto her foot, on one of the bare spots of her shoes.
Also over the course of the series, Haruka starts having these weird, trippy, nightmare-like Visions at times. At first she thinks of them as merely just bad nightmares, but she keeps on having them, and soon she tries to find out what they mean. Soon she realizes that these visions are foreshadowing a rather grim future for herself and for some of her friends too, and also are telling her about her eventual horrible fate that now shall come upon her, since she made a contract with Kyubey. Things get even worse for her when she finally deciphers what her visions mean.
Also worth noting is that Haruka's family owns a time-share vacation home in the woods. Haruka loves to spend time at this vacation home with her friends, usually on weekends during the days when it is available, and many times she has sleepovers and parties there. Ever since gaining back her ability to walk, Haruka goes there with her friends on any opportunity she can, and she enjoys it so much.

I do-I have to say, I wasn't expecting you to be this in-depth with your characters, it's impressive!
And I wouldn't entertain the thought of insulting you-you're a friend of a friend, and it wouldn't be okay at all to disrespect the hard work you put into these characters.
I don't understand why people act that way-it's saddening to know that people will hate on you just for trying something different, but y'know-screw them, right? Pessimists won't get anywhere in life.

I understand entirely what you meant. I try to give my characters as much description as I can, so they don't seem so "Spur Of The Moment" and to show I actually put effort into them.
Well, I've met my fair share of a lot of jerks on this site and others, who have harassed me in lots of ways. Especially ones who banned from RP groups and forums, just because they didn't like me or something that I do. I once tried to expose them for who they really were, but they then made it look like I was the bad guy, and even got me a Warning on DA.
Worse. I recently found that some of them were among the same people who harassed that one girl in that "Steven Universe SJW" incident that has been going around. Why am I not surprised?

You didn't hear about the Steven Universe SJWs (short for Social Justice Warriors)? Oh my, was it quite an event, and it's been giving the series and its fans a bad name, even though fans like me are not like them, and I know plenty other fans who are disgusted by this.
Well there was an incident that happened where a certain Steven Universe fan drew the characters in a way that some other Elitist Social Justice Warrior Fans and Pessimist fans didn't approve of, and also I heard made Gemsona Characters that they didn't approve of either.
They then went so far as to send their "White Knights" to harass the heck out of her when she blocked them, organize entire message boards to just hating on her, humiliate her in front of all their friends, and even make threatening and harsh remarks to her repeatedly, that, no joke, actually drove her to attempt Suicide! Can you believe that?
I haven't been harassed that much, thank goodness, but I feel that sometimes they were close to it!

I know. It sickens me. Although some of them have harassed me, I'm glad they haven't gone to those levels yet. And I'm especially glad that I have people like you backing me up.
Sometimes I admit that I can be harsh at times, but when I am harsh, it's mainly just to show that I'm not someone they can easily pick on like they did to her, and that I'm not gonna tolerate those sorts of people either.
And when there's something that I disagree on with how someone drew a character, or how they design their own FCs, I'm not gonna organize entire people to harass them to the point of suicide!

That's a good thing, showing you've got spine-I don't deal with that through arguments though. I calmly reply with the fact that killing myself won't help matters. People like them expect a fight out of whoever they pick on, so throwing them off their game can be a pretty useful tactic.
That'd be ridiculous-I mean, what's the point of it? If it's something with the design, you can point it out, sure, and maybe the person will reconsider the design, but the art style isn't gonna change anytime soon, you just gotta deal with it.

Yes, another super cute hairstyle that's hardly ever done in anime. I thought it made her look unique. Her powers are creative and new too, and awesome.
She's the least popular of my Maho Shoujo characters for some reason. I don't know why not too many people like Haruka Conley. She's actually very unique and cute if you ask me.

Yes, she's rather interesting, though not too many people seem to like her for some reason. She's perhaps the least popular of my Maho Shoujo characters.
What do you think of her ability to summon those floating orb-like cohorts? Pretty neat and unique special power, huh? Though it still has its limits though, so she isn't overpowered or anything.

Haruka isn't that generic. I will get more into her story over time, but she is rather interesting too.
I based them more off of the Paper Doll Shikigamis used by Wizards in Japanese Mythology. Her orb cohorts are actually sentient beings that obey her every command without hesitation, and fight alongside her. However, she can only have 5 of them out at a time, and they take a bit of time and energy for her to summon, making it tough for her to summon replacements when under fire.
Because of this, Kyubey thinks of her as sort of an in-between being to a Maho Shoujo and a Witch. The cohorts are sort of like Witch Minions in a way, though not exactly. He doesn't mention this to her directly though.

I also should mention that when in battle, Haruka tends to "act tough and hardcore," even though she is not normally. She acts nice when not in battle though. The only reason she does this is that she doesn't want to appear weak to others. Even though in truth, she isn't that enthusiastic about it.
Here's a few examples of some of the "hardcore" stuff that Haruka usually says while in combat. They are very "Duke-Nukem esque," although like her friends she never uses profanity in them though.
"You think I'm afraid if you because of your size? C'mon, show me what you've got!"
"If you think a Witch like you can defy us, you are Dead Wrong!"
"Me and my cohorts are gonna pound you full of bullets, and them I'm gonna rip them out of you, so I can shoot them into you again!"

You know, I'm not picking up any personality or character depth from Haruka. She doesn't even seem to have a personality other than "loves walking and being a magical girl". Or at least that's the impression I'm getting.

Well, she does actually play a big role, especially with the strange visions she has that foreshadow the horrible things to come. Maybe her personality will be shown more once I get more of Rika Magika finished.
Also I just noticed that I forgot to mention this, but I will now. Also Haruka tends to "talk tough" whenever she is in battle, but she isn't really that harsh or tough. She only acts that way in battle so that others don't think of her as weak, and doesn't really do so as much in other situations.

Well sorta, but not really. She says tough-sounding stuff in battle like "You think I'm afraid of you because of your size? C'mon show me what you can do!" and "Bring It On!" but not the kind of things that Mami says. Though at times, her true colors do show.
Also, she doesn't enjoy Witch Fighting as much as some of the others, but however, she does it because she feels it sort of an obligation she owes Kyubey for restoring her ability to walk. A different motive than the others had.

Well, not exactly that good of a wish, since technically the whole Soul Gem Semi-Immortality thing also could've restored her walking, and she could've just wished for something else. But it was still a pretty good wish for her, since not being able to walk again was devastating for her.
And about her recovery, she explained it to her family in the same way that Sayaka's Boyfriend, Kyousuke, explained his recovery when Sayaka's wish restored his hands after being seriously injured. She told them, "I don't know how to explain it. Its nothing short of a miracle." That was pretty much enough to do it.
In fact, her wish is sort of like Sayaka's wish, except it was directed to herself and not to another person she knows.

Her orange hair hiding her eyes makes her very unique and memorable, plus the military-like costume is a unique touch too .She's so cute, her hair reminds me of Briefs from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt.

Why thank you so much, Kamon-San. I'm surprised on how I managed to make her so adorable, even with something as tough and formal-looking as an Army Uniform for her Maho Shoujo outfit, but I succeeded overall. I tried to make her unique as possible, and since none of the other girls wear that, use that sort of power, have that color scheme and all, it all works well.
I can see how she looks like Briefs in a way, but she wasn't inspired by her. Another person told me that she also looks similar to Midori Misato from Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School. It has to be done right to make that "hair bangs covering the eyes" look cute, and not Emo-looking, and I think I got it right.
And yes, the way she summons and commands her Cohorts is a unique and interesting ability. Though it still isn't overpowered due to the limits she has, such as how she can only have 5 at a time, and how they aren't that powerful individually. She has to use strategy and more to use them effectively, because it can be hard to summon replacements if she loses one, especially when she's under fire by a Witch's attacks.
I'd love to see Haruka appear with your Maho Shoujos too. She's a pretty neat addition to the team. Although Jo is still more experienced and powerful than Haruka, that doesn't make her bad. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses. Rika Isoni would really love her Cohorts, and find them to be very interesting. In fact, maybe Haruka could have her Cohorts help Rika at times like helping her tie her bows or something like that. Rika would find that to be very enjoyable and awesome to have Haruka make those little orange orb-shaped beings assist her with things like that.
Also, which ones do you think she'd get along with well?
Personally, I think she'd be best with Yoko overall, though maybe Yuki too, although Yuki's secrets might pose a problem, but then again, the fact that Jo is also withholding information about the contract as well hasn't caused her problems yet, and she doesn't even notice until later on, and even then, she finds out more from her visions and from Kyubey, but doesn't learn that Jo was actually aware of it before. Amane I doubt she'd be good friends with, since Haruka actually thinks of Homura to be strange, and Amane does act sort of like Homura though. I dunno if she'd get along well with Murasaki though, but maybe you'd think different, perhaps she's sort of like her, but not as much as the others. What do you think?
As for Himiko, I'd expect her to be quite a formidable opponent for her, and her chances of beating her would be low, but even if she wins, it would be quite a hard victory. Considering Haruka's persona, she'd probably not want to show mercy on Himiko after winning a fight.
I could already picture a battle with them, and after Himiko is downed, she's just about ready to take out her Soul Gem and finish her off, but then Jo intervenes and tells her not too, for Himiko doesn't really deserve that at this point, and would make her no better. Haruka would then think about it, then spare her because her friend gave her a reason to, but if it weren't for Jo, Haruka wouldn't be so considerate. After that, it would probably end with either Himiko taking advantage of this and blasting her back as she makes her getaway, or Jo doing one of those really embarrassing things to Himiko, so that they can get away.

I don't see why Haruka would not get along with Saki; as a matter of fact I think Saki would be the easiest Mahou Shoujo to get along with, being so nice and easy to befriend. Amane would definitely try to convince Haruka not to use too much magic though, so I must agree with you that she could be unfonfortable with her. Yuki could be a good mentor/friend and Yoko could be a great big sister figure and friend as well.

Hmm, I see. Well if she could get along with Murasaki, she'd definitely be good in this team. I wonder what Murasaki would think of her cohorts?
And if Amane is telling her not to use too much Magic, she might not like that, especially since those Cohorts are really helpful for her in and out of battle, but it takes a considerable amount of magic power and time for her to summon just one. She might think Amane is trying to hold her back and such. Although Haruka isn't all willy-nilly with it (since she can feel how exhausted they get when they use a lot of power), she does use them quite frequently. In fact while her parents are out, her Cohorts are useful for doing chores for her and such.
And yes, Haruka isn't that willing to go easy on someone, but she does show mercy on her own at times, just not as easily as Jo would. Maybe she'd also be willing to spare Himiko if Himiko helped her take down a Witch, sort of out of respect for helping her earlier. But if Himiko were in danger of being killed by a Witch herself, Haruka would probably not go out of her way to save her like Jo might. I hope that helps you understand how she is in battle, a little bit more serious about things.
Did you notice how her Soul Gem in its portable form looks like a Medical Cross sign? I thought that works for her, since her previous self had to spend a lot of time at the hospital when she originally broke her spine. And her Soul Gem attaches onto her foot, which is a very unique area too, and could also play into that. Her Soul Gem is a lot more difficult to hit than most of the others, considering how its on her foot, and that can be hard to target.
Jo told her that the Soul Gem is sort of like a relic that grants the owner Maho Shoujo powers and Semi-Immortality, but she did not mention that their Lifeforce is now contained inside of it. She didn't want Haruka to feel bad about that, and that was the best way to make it sound better. Haruka doesn't use it like Jo does, because that would make her uncomfortable, but however, she is happy now that she will never have to worry about losing her ability to walk again. Jo told her to always keep a hold of it since its very important, but she isn't aware of how the gem has to stay within 100M of her. Haruka still keeps hers safe anyways, but more because she feels that she might lose her powers and doesn't want that to happen. She doesn't know that she'll die if something happens to it though.
Also, you might like the way she spawns her SMG's. Jo's method of summmoning her staff and Needle-Blades are basically she materializes them straight into her hands. For Haruka's method, its more fancier and cooler-looking. She either pulls off her Titovka hat and summons them out of there, or she summons them out of those gray pockets around her belt. Its a bit cooler of a means of weapon summoning.
I was also thinking she might do it in Mami's method where she pulls up the bottom of her uniform and they fall out from there, but I rejected that, since it doesn't look as cool with her outfit. The others work better for her.
I'm also currently designing a Transformation Sequence for her's, though its been rather hard. I will try to make it look really unique and fancy, and make sure it fits her. For the theme that plays during Haruka's transformation sequence, I think this music would fit her best, don't you agree? --> [link]

Wow, that would be a really cute scene of a sleepover with them. And that would also be adorable to see Murasaki mess around with her Cohorts like that. To think of the hijinks they could pull with each other, especially if Jo joined in too. Also, so you know, Jo likes her Cohorts a lot too. She finds them to be fun to play around with, and neat when they carry her parts around, and she loves the way they help her take down Witches.
Reminds me of a scene I was already going to add to Rika Magika, where the girls spend the weekend at Haruka's Family's vacation home in the woods and essentially have a sleepover there. It's really cute. Hmm, maybe we could somehow merge the scenes together? I dunno if Murasaki would enjoy her vacation home in the woods, but maybe. Its a rather good vacation home too, and at that scene, the girls are by themselves, without their parents, so they can have more freedom.
