A while ago I did some Invader Zim AU sketches on my instagram and I liked them enough to color em and post them here!

So the Invader Dib AU, kinda switched species / roles for everyone.
Zim has real parents. His mom is a gardener, and his dad might be a stockbroker for some lab company...? Idk something that makes him a lot of money. Thats how Zim can afford a lab in his basement. His parents love him, but are too cheerful and busy to notice his turmoil at school. He's weird and gets bullied a lot for believing in aliens. His parents despite loving him, completely disregard his beliefs and think he's silly. They let him play with his "toys" (lab equipment) and think its just a phase he's going through. He knows at some point when they realize its not a phase, they'll get worried and try to take his stuff from him. Knowing that, he's distanced himself from them. Its one thing to love your child, but its another to love them for who they are.

Zim at least has his silly dumb dog Gir, who's fur is stained green from some kind of experimentation he endured. Zim's parents rescued Gir from an animal testing facility that got whistleblowed and shut down. Zim gets annoyed at Gir's shenanigans, but regardless, they've been inseparable since they met.

Tak is human. Just human. She kinda takes on the role as Zim's primary bully at school. (Kinda like Dib's sister too in a way?) Where she always gets what she wants and will destroy Zim if he does anything to mess up her plans. At first Zim thought she had a crush on him but found out she was just messing with him. After that, he knew not to underestimate her, but he still does things to tick her off.

Zim sometimes is gloveless, but when it comes to aliens or lab equipment, on the gloves go! His mom is a gardener, she's got a stock pile of them. Zim like human Dib is a member of the Swollen Eyeball group. He's dubbed himself "Agent Piggy" and is interested in saving the Earth from alien invaders.
I made Zim look extremely uncaring in this comic strip, strictly his bored side of his personality. But Zim is still a weird goofball, determined to impress the Swollen Eyeball foundation and the rest of the world with his findings. Its difficult to keep all of Zim's personality, because most of his "weirdness" was because he was an alien, he wasn't native to Earth so he didn't understand the customs. In that sense, he'd be more like human Dib. Calm or prepared when it came to "normal" Earth things.
And because he is Zim, he's less crazy when it comes to aliens in the original show, so people just roll their eyes at him rather than throw him in a straight-jacket....
I just can't see him being a nuts as Dib when it comes to aliens, I feel like he'd definitely be more intrigued and wreckless to observe them, but not get too much attention drawn to him.
He's still determined to stop Irken Invader Dib and his 'sister' Gaz. He spies on Dib a lot and always manages to sabotage Dib's plans for Earth domination, but at the same time, he somehow manages to destroy the Earth on his own through trying to save it.

Dib on the other hand still inherits his psychotic personality over OTHER alien species aka humans. So much so, he was sent to Earth...not as a form of banishment exactly, but the irken armada casted him out and would prefer if he stayed as far away from them as possible. Poor Gaz was sent along with him to make sure he doesn't screw up his 'mission'. They both serve under Tallest Bitters. (Zim and Dib's class teachers are Zim's Tallest Red and Purple, but humanized. Mr Red is probably the principal while Mr Purple is the main classroom teacher. The two switch out often when it comes to putting up with Zim and Dib's shenanigans)

Later in the show, Zim was supposed to "recruit" Skooge and Tenn at some point in the concept art / written episodes. So they're kinda like his hang-out friends at school in a way. Since it would be unfair of Dib to be so alone in that result, I think Tak would take a liking to Dib and hang around him sometimes just to mess with Zim.
Dib and Zim are rivals in the show, but they are very much alike. Dib may have had a family but they didn't really care about him. Zim had his computer and Gir but they're not truly his "family" per se... Dib and Zim didn't really have any friends. Zim was banished from his homeworld because of the destruction he caused, thinking he was doing good for the Irken Empire. Dib is an outcast, constantly ridiculed and bullied for trying to save humanity. These two have both been abandoned by their own kind, and I just love that concept. Its what makes their rivalry so delicious. They kinda validate eachother through their little war game.

Dib is still an insane outcast while Zim is kind of a pushed aside machine of destruction....?

Anyhow, it was a bit difficult to truly reverse everyone. Because they kept their personalities, its hard to say how much exactly would change / differ.
But this was just the first take on this AU. I think I just like to draw human Zim and invader Dib, hehe....
