It's an amazing drawing. You convey the link between Flannery and her Torkoal really well, somehow the Pokemon does seem to be feeling happiness, peace and calm with his trainer and, for some reason, Flannery looks to be relieved to have her pokemon at her side, as if he has escaped some danger or another (and the flames/ fire drops make me think of an erupting volcano). I also like the color and the light/shading you did.

Oh wow, you must be a really good analyst! The first idea came to me when drawing this piece was that this is a victory hug when they both overcame and win the battle, the fire drops are the remnants of the battle and we could know how well Torkoal performed following his trainer’s orders. You can feel Flannery’s face seems to be proud and the pride on Torkoal’s face!

I prefer this size because, to me, it somehow could let people feel the bond between the two. Just like when a person hugs his giant Husky, cozy and comfortable lol
